With less than a month to go until the day of the event, tickets have gone on sale at Ticketmaster.com and the box office for the groundbreaking “Softbank presents Dynamite!! USA in association with ProElite” event at the Los Angeles Coliseum. The event is K-1’s first mixed martial arts foray into the United States market.
Dynamite!! USA is the result of a partnership between K-1’s parent company FEG, Pro Elite, Inc. (the company behind EliteXC) and Showtime Networks Inc. The first portion of the event will consist of an undercard featuring EliteXC fighters Jake Shields, Antonio Silva and Gina Carano, to air at 5:00 p.m. PT on the Showtime premium channel.
The main portion of the fight card will take place shortly after the Showtime telecast and will be broadcast on Showtime’s pay-per-view branch. The main card features Brock Lesnar making his MMA debut against the gigantic Hong Man Choi, as well as the legendary Royce Gracie and former USC and NFL football standout Johnnie Morton.
“We went to great lengths to put together match-ups that are historic and compelling for Dynamite!! USA,” said Sadaharu Tanikawa, CEO of FEG. “From the immense popularity of MMA events in the U.S. and our consistent demand overseas, we expect seats at the Coliseum to fill up quickly in the coming weeks.”
FEG has shown themselves to be quite ambitious for their first MMA outing in the U.S. The 74-year-old L.A. Coliseum has a capacity of more than 90,000. Thus far, the record attendance for an MMA event in the U.S. is little more than 19,000, set by the Ultimate Fighting Championship at the Randy Couture vs. Tim Sylvia headlined UFC 68 in Columbus, Ohio.
