UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos, returning from an injured knee, is preparing for the first defense of his belt when he faces Alistair Overeem at UFC 146 on May 26.

He knows what’s in store. Overeem is a former champion at Dream, K-1, and Strikeforce. His credentials, particularly as a striker are impeccable.

But dos Santos doesn’t sell himself short in that regard either.

“I love boxing and I’m a really confident guy on my hands. So I really believe I can knock anyone out,” dos Santos said on Tuesday in Las Vegas.

That only leads to what could be a spectacular finish, at least if dos Santos’ assessment holds true that night. “I think he’s pretty good. He has good stand-up skills. He’s a striker, I’m a striker, somebody is gonna get knocked out.”

Check out what else Junior dos Santos had to say about Overeem at the UFC 146 press conference on Tuesday…

Dos Santos can knock “anybody” out except Roy Nelson…LOL…he forgot that part so I thought I’d add it for him.

      Hahah well said!

  • This is going to be a good fight, for as long as it lasts. I believe the hand-speed and movement of JDS will earn him the win. I do not believe that Overeem will be able to muscle him around.

I believe that Overeem is gonna try to pick him apart from the outside. Kicks and punches. He has a considerable reach and size advantage, and what’s more is he knows how to use it. That being said, countering Dos Santos is waiting to get KO’d. Very interesting match-up. Striking advantage, definitely Overeem, but JDS is very dangerous. Can’t wait.

Striking advantage Overeem ? Was that a joke ? Overeem is an OK striker with a weak chin. JDS has the best boxing the HW div. has ever seen with a granit chin.
This is an easy KO for JDS.

An OK striker. You must be the one telling jokes. He has the best kickboxing in the heavyweight division. He uses eight different points to destroy people. His striking more than “OK”. JDS has the best boxing yes, but two weapons or eight. I think JDS wins, but not easy. This fight has the makings of one of the greatest HW title matches ever.

I hope Overeem KO’s JDS. Sick of that overconfident smurk on his face, acting like he’s the best hevyweight striker ever. If he thinks he’s that good, he should go and teste himself in K1 or boxing like all the other heavyweight strikers. Mike Tyson would of crushed his ass back in the day!

It seems like the guy is just genuinely smiling all the time. From what I have seen of him he is nothing but a really nice guy. Haven’t heard a bad thing about him….unlike overeem. Money is the only thing that kept him out of jail on that assault charge. Overeem seems to always be the smirky one, who also clearly uses steroids. I hope jds flattens his ass.

  • I am glad his English is progressing. It really helps his marketability.

I bet JDS will try to take Overeem down and ground and pound.

    • maddawgmar

He very well may. He has been trained by the Nogeira brothers, so you know he has Jitz. But Overeem is no slouch on the ground. He has submission victories as well. I think they may be equal on the ground and close to equal standing, Overeem having the advantage, but JDS having the fight stopping power.

Junior Dos Santos is the greatest heavyweight!!!!!! Overeem is a douchebag. KO 1st round in the 1st minute.
