Junior dos Santos Reminds Everyone, Including Jon Jones, Who is the “Baddest Man on the Planet”

Jon Jones vs Junior dos SantosJunior dos Santos is not a fighter that backs down from challenges, and any fighter willing to step into the heavyweight division will find that out very quickly.

Through nine fights in the UFC, dos Santos has nine victories, with seven of those coming by way of knockout or TKO. In the two decisions he’s had, dos Santos has battered those opponents into a bloody pulp, leaving no doubt who was the victor when the final bell sounded.

Despite the path of destruction that dos Santos has left in his wake, he’s rarely mentioned in the mythical “pound-for-pound” discussion, but there’s one fight out there that could change all that… if it ever happens.

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has teased for months about potentially moving up to heavyweight, and stated recently he might even do so by the “end of 2013.” If that happens, Jones would then enter the peripheral vision of UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos, and that might be just the challenge he’s been looking for.

“People like to imagine a lot of things. Jon Jones is an amazing fighter. He’s really good, he’s so confident, and I like him a lot. He’s very nice with me; I’m nice with him,” dos Santos said about Jones recently.

Handshakes and smiles aside, dos Santos has no problem with Jones, but if he decides to take a trip into the heavyweight division, then the Brazilian will happily defend his turf. Then dos Santos will remind Jones just who really is the “baddest man on the planet.”

“I’ve got the heavyweight belt. There is just one baddest man on the planet, and I think I am this guy now. If he moves up to the heavyweight division, I would think about that fight,” said dos Santos.

“If they put him in front of me to challenge me, we’re going to fight. I will give my best.”

The next time the heavyweight champion will compete is at UFC 155 in a rematch against Cain Velasquez, the man he defeated to win the title. Following that, dos Santos will most likely come face-to-face with former Strikeforce champion Alistair Overeem.

But if dos Santos can do to those two opponents what he’s already done in his last nine fights in the UFC, a superfight with Jon Jones might be just the kind of match-up the heavyweight champion would get excited about, and the timing would likely line up perfectly at the end of 2013.

JDS just issued a polite warning, and as much as I’d like to see it, I think Jackson will make sure this does not happen.

  • steve

has to actually beat cain first though and i think this next fight will be a rough one for both fighters

    • theprodigy00

Cain stands less of a chance this time around. Both guys were hurt in the first fight and Junior still took him out. This time both will be mostly healthy, and Junior will clean his clock much worse. Then next up will be Reem, and unless Reem can take him to the mat, he will be on the wrong end of a KO/TKO loss. When Overeem is in trouble, he doesn’t survive it.

  • Bobby

He gonna destroy Cain again and Roidreem and Johnny Boy enough said Cigano here to stay !

  • Ed

He’s had one title defense! give a break with that crap! he’s lucky he caught Cain quickly and didn’t have to go to war with him! he’s been champ for 5 minutes and he wants PFP? If this was Jones talking that crap every shertard would crap there pants! oh , you beat a washed up Mir!! Amazing!!LOL!

    • Tom

He never said P4P. He said he’s the baddest man on the planet. It’s debatable. But if he were to beat Cain (again), Overeem and Jones then I’d have to agree with him.

  • Lando

Pretty sure jds would stomp jbj, cain (again),and alice, the fact that he didnt go to war with cain was because he ended the fight <duh, hes a brilliant striker, his wrestling and jj has only gotten better. The fact that he has only 1 title deffense would be ufc match maker wanted to build him up from the start of his carreer, he was ready awhile ago, but the division at the time was weak.

  • Sup

Think he’s forgetting about something… Cain Velasquez. Cannot underestimate Cain. The man is a beast. He’s torn apart Big Foot, Big Nog, Big Lesnar, EVERYONE BIG! lol Cain covered in Big Foots blood was one of the most disturbed things ive seen

  • Realist

The Reem will put JDS down.

  • Jason Daigle

The one punch he landed on Cain was behind his head. Cain made a mistake and got into a wailing war with him. I have to believe that Cain will fight a smarter fight. JDS does have some lethal hands, but every fight has been stand and trade with him.

  • Mike Oxafloppin

Make all the excuses for Cain you want, it doesn’t hid the fact that he has a weak chin. You think I’m blowing smoke watch his fight with Cheick Kongo

  • Logic

JDS has way too many nuthugger fans

    • dfgsdfgsdfg

So does GSP, Anderson, and every other champion. What’s your point?

  • Darin

“If they put him in front of me to challenge me, we’re going to fight. I will give my best.”
JDS is probably the p4p nicest guy in the UFC. Someone teach this guy how to trash talk.

  • JDSfan

Alister Overoids doesn’t deserve the title shot. And I honestly think at heavyweight JDS would ko JBJ. JDS easily stuff takedowns from much bigger and higher caliber wrestlers at HEAVYWEIGHT. so i doubt JBJ could get him down. And standing I think JDS can KO anyone. How is JDS not considered top P4P. He destroys everyone.

  • rdd08

DUDE JDS would make JBJ a little b***h!!!!!!!!

  • stevemcz11

I wonder if Jones will be as humble in his response as he was for Daniel Cormier. So it will be something like JDS is a better boxer but this isnt boxing its MMA. Surely he will respond to JDS if he responded to Cormier

  • Brandon

All this boils down too is jones is scared to fight anderson and looking for anything he can do to punkout of that superfight! Hes a joke n i hope he does gro a sac n go to heavyweight lol jr. Or cain wuld roll him up n smoke him he better stay right were hes at so he can pic his opponents! Lol
