26-Julianna-Pena-TUF-18-Finale-w-478x270The Ultimate Fighter Season 18 winner Julianna Peña is out of her planned UFC 171 bout with Jessica Andrade due to a knee injury.

Peña confirmed the knee injury on Twitter and told FoxSports.com that she believed it was severe. Her current plan is to fly to Los Angeles next week to have surgery and begin rehabilitation.

The injury occurred during a grappling session during training when Peña hyper-extended her knee.

She won’t find out the full extent of the injury until she gets to Los Angeles next week.

In the meantime, UFC officials have begun a search for a new opponent for Andrade. Fellow women’s bantamweight fighter Sarah Kaufman, however, wants to make the search a short one.

“I’m really sorry to hear that Julianna Peña is out her fight March 15 with Jessica Andrade, but Dana White, Sean Shelby, I’m here, I’m ready,” Kaufman said in a video she posted to her Instagram account. “Get me in there.”

A welterweight bout between Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler to determine a new welterweight champion headlines UFC 171 on March 15 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.

Didn’t Pennington get the fight already???

She tore the ACL, MCL, LCL, and hamstring how is this her fault, sounds like a very unfortunate accident or negligence in the trainers and gym

I would go with negligence. In order to tear all of those in one incident, is really hard to do. Your leg would practically have to go left right back and forward. I can see this happening in a car accident, but in training, wow. I bet it was a leg lock someone didn’t let go of fast enough.
