Josh Koscheck – Say Hello to the Bad Guy

A lot of kids growing up read comic books and aspire to be superheroes like Superman or Batman one day. It’s not very often, however, when a child hopes to become Lex Luthor or the Joker.

Well, don’t paint Josh Koscheck as a bad guy or villain just yet, but he certainly is not a fighter who will win a popularity contest any time soon.

The former Ultimate Fighter season one competitor has long been the recipient of more boos in the UFC than just about any other fighter. While many others including recent UFC on Fox 2 fighter Michael Bisping have come close to the throne, UFC president Dana White says the crown still rests firmly upon Koscheck’s head.

“Let’s be honest, Bisping is probably other than Koscheck, the most hated guy in the UFC. You’ve got to give the award to Koscheck,” White said recently.

Even former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans, who has been viewed as one of the least popular fighters in the sport, has his fans. White’s not sure Koscheck has any.

“There’s some people I’ve seen cheer for Rashad, I’ve never seen one guy clapping in an entire arena when Josh Koscheck walks out. Ever,” White stated.

Although Koscheck doesn’t appear to be on anyone’s favorite fighter list, he certainly does draw a crowd.

Whether fans love him or hate him, Koscheck is always a person that people want to see fight, even if it’s with the hope that he’ll lose.

White explains that there’s something about impassioned hate that gets just as many viewers as a dedicated love for a fighter.

“I think the people love, I think they love to see the guys fight that they hate,” White said.

For his part, Koscheck has never professed to being a bad guy by any means, but he’s not going to change who he is for anybody, and don’t expect him to apologize for that any time soon.

Chances are when Josh Koscheck walks out in the arena on Saturday night for his fight with Mike Pierce at UFC 143, he’ll receive a lot of boos from the Las Vegas crowd, and he’ll surely stir up a few more should he win.

Funny thing though, love him or hate him, Josh Koscheck really doesn’t care.

I like the guy. His fights are getting better and better with his improved stand up.His wrestling is world class I think he gets a bad rap stemming from season 1 U.F. when he was jerking Lebon around. That said ,I thought Lebon carried himself like an asshole , and a bit of a bully towards the weaker guys in the house. I always root for the guy who bullies the bully and stands up for the little guy. That was Kos. Lebons pissing in beds behind peoples backs, and Kos made him pay 4 it(with a lil help from Southworth)–I guess thats why im the only Kos fan

Anyone who steps foot inside that cage automatically gets my respect. This is the not the WWE. Booing any fighter, whether you like them or not, is pretty out of order as far as I’m concerned. Those guys are putting their health on the line for our entertainment.

I wouldn’t say everyone, but Koscheck has my respect.

Lebons pissing in beds behind peoples backs, and Kos made him pay 4 it(with a lil help from Bobby Southworth)–Everyone will probably bring up Kos teasing GSP when they were coaches on UF, but you have to admit the spandex shorts dig was hilarious–And when the fight was over Kos showed class by giving GSP his due. Will he ever win a world title?,probably not ,as long as GSP is champ, but the new intrem belt opens up all kinds of posibilities –In all reality, GSP will probably destroy the intrem champ, who ever it is, but coming off a long layoff and knee surgury, who knows if hell come back 100%.All that said, Im probably the only Kos fan in existence..lol

      Ummmm….Deja Vu……

  • Dave

I am a Koscheck fan, so that makes two.

  • ayahoo

It was awsome when GSP beat the crap out of koscheck with one hand tied behind his back. I laughed.

  • Anthony

please disregard my 1st reply(1st comment) –it had been on hold for hours so I copied it and summed it up better in my second reply–I appoligize for the redundancy

As long as he doesn’t go back to his wet blanket ways that ruined potentially good fights (Daley, Lytle), he’s OK.

I think I am the only guy in the world that loved when Kos just embarassed the joke that is Paul Daley for 15 mins. Maybe it is just me as a former collegiate wrestler that loves to see the brits with their attitutde that Wrestling is unecessary and they just get tooled out (Bisping being the exception with an improving TDD.)

You can count me in as a Kos fan as well. So now we are up to 3. Get on the bandwagon people. because we seriously bought to big a wagon and it looks silly with only 3 of us on here.

  • MRGJJ

Hatem and relish when he loses.

  • Anthony

Totally off topic but I was thinkin–uh oh….lol –if you could promote any 3 fights what would they be? my 3:
    1-JDS vs Overeem
2-Bones vs Anderson Silva at 205
3-Edgar vs Josie Aldo at 145

    What do you guys think?????????

  • Triggerman99

I agree; it’s a joke to boo any fighter who gets in the cage. It’s all the wannabe beer-swillers in the cheap seats with Tapout hoodies that are the worst offenders. They tend to forget the fact these fighters work their asses off to get where they are.
I’m not saying all fans are guilty; most of us are very respectful. But there’s those select few that make the rest of us look bad.

Oh, and I hate Koscheck. I hope he loses. LOL But I won’t boo the guy if he doesn’t.

  • Dan

I like that he’s the bad guy, it’s part of what makes the sport interesting. I also like that he’ll take fights on short notice regardless who it is.

  • The Lion King

Kos is arguably the second best fighter in his weight class… I am a big time Koscheck fan and his bad guy image is the reason he works that much harder to win. He is also up there with the best all time with victorys in the octagon. Any beers on that wagon boys?

  • maddawgmar

I don’t boo any fighter but I root against the one like Kos. Hope Pierce stomps him good. “Say goodnight to the bad guy.”

“Koscheck doesn’t seem to be on anyone’s favorite fighter list” BS! he’s on mine! lol
