The injury bug strikes again and this time it costs UFC 151 its co-main event.

Josh Koscheck has been forced out of his scheduled bout against Jake Ellenberger on the Sept 1 card due to a bulging disc in his back.

The fight between Koscheck and Ellenberger was scheduled as the co-main event on the card headlined by UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones vs. Dan Henderson.

Unfortunately now UFC officials are left to find a replacement to try to step in and face Ellenberger on just three weeks notice for the upcoming card in Las Vegas.

The timeline for Koscheck’s return to action has not been determined at this time.

The injury was reported on Fuel TV via UFC Tonight on Tuesday evening.

This sucks man, whether you love or hate Kos he is always in shape and always come to fight. These injuries have been killing fight cards. But it happens. He could be out a while with a bulging disc. Damn.

Looks like karma is a bitch. Kos was talking all that shit about hoping aka gym burning down. And he gets in back. Literally !!

Looks like Siyar Bahadurzada wants a fight. Can he be ready in time? Would BJ Penn take the fight? probably not.

Bahhahah I was honking BJ until I seen when this fight card, BJ is barely in shape for 2 rounds with a regular training camp, let alone on short notice. Too bad they can’t take ellenberger and have him fight BJ in Toronto. BTW: I think BJ should count his lucky stars macdonald got 40+ stitches.G

Give this fight to Dan Hardy or Siyar Bahadurzada..or perhaps Diego Sanchez.

    what do you guys think?

    • phrankthetank

Siyar is still healing from a broken hand, hardy is locked into the Nottingham card, and Sanchez is dropping back to lightweight.

  • phrankthetank

WWs are in short supply, everyone is either booked, suspended, or injured. What’s Rick story up to? He might be the only viable option.

    • shakejunt

story is booked to fight maia, but i think it’s a possible they pull that fight apart to have either one face ellenberger

      • phrankthetank

Forgot about that, yea… Probably the fight they’ll have to break if they’re gonna keep ellenberger on the card.

  • acspida#244

Dang….I was looking forward to this match up…..Probably not possible with SF contract, but how about Nate Marquardt? Great match up!!!!

  • RubeKegal

How about Anthony Johnson to step in? He was a welterweight right? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Hi might surprise Jake by coming in at only 190.

Very unfortunate injury for KOS and the UFC. The injury bug seems to be rolling again with Rory MacDonald and KOS now being injured. One of the worst injury years in recent history. With so many welterweights already booked, its going to be hard to break a fight to match up with Ellenberger.

Check out JCVD with GSP at Tristar http://www.ufcfightblogger.com/videos/jean-claude-van-damme-visits-georges-st-pierre-tristar-gym/

Very cool clip, JCVD still has sick kicks for a 51 yr old and not to mention he still has insane flexibility. GSP is da man!

    Martin Kampmann.

Ellenberger, if he accepts the Siyar fight, better get a free pass to a title shot soon, for being a company man.

  • longtime fan

Bj penn makes the most sense. His opponent got injured for his fight in the same month. Its only three weeks earlier than his scheduled fight. Its only comes down to penn accepting. I think this is a better come back fight for penn anyway. Still will be a tough battle though. Ellenberger is mean… for the first two rounds anyway
