UFC welterweight contender Josh Koscheck has been forced out of his UFC 109 bout with Paulo Thiago due to an undisclosed injury. The bout was scheduled for the promotion’s Feb. 6 Super Bowl weekend event.
Koscheck confirmed the news, which was first reported by MMAFighting.com, via his official Twitter account.
“Well the news is out. I am not fighting (on Feb. 6 at UFC 109 due to injury.) I will be good to go back to training in a couple weeks, I hope!!” he wrote.
Koscheck (14-4) and Thiago (12-1) met previously at UFC 95 in London. The Brazilian stunned the American Kickboxing Academy fighter, finishing him by way of TKO just past the midway point of the opening round.
Thiago then went on to lose his next bout, to Koscheck teammate Jon Fitch, before returning to his winning ways with a decision victory over Jacob Volkmann at UFC 106.
Koscheck has since won back-to-back bouts over Frank Trigg and Anthony Johnson.
MMAWeekly.com sources indicated that Thiago is expected to remain on the card, though it was unclear at the time of publication who his new opponent would be.
