It didn’t take UFC matchmaker Joe Silva long to find a replacement to fight Matt Hughes at UFC 135.

According to former title contender Josh Koscheck, he has been offered and accepted the fight with Hughes on Sept 24, pending his opponent opting to take the fight.

“It looks like I am in to fight Matt Hughes if he takes it,” Koscheck wrote on Twitter.

Just earlier in the day on Monday, Hughes’ original opponent Diego Sanchez was confirmed out for the Denver card after suffering a broken hand in training.

Immediately, word spread like wild fire of potential replacements to face Hughes, and it appears the wheel of fortune landed on Josh Koscheck’s name.

The former ‘Ultimate Fighter’ cast member has been out of action since last December when he lost a unanimous decision to UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre. Koscheck suffered a broken orbital bone in the fight and had to have surgery, which put him on the sideline for several months.

In August, Koscheck announced that he was planning on being a part of UFC 139 in San Jose, possibly even at middleweight, but assuming Hughes accepts the fight, he’ll be fighting in just over 3 weeks, now back at welterweight.

There’s been no official word from the UFC if Hughes has decided to take the fight with Koscheck or not.

KOS should win this fight even on short notice. He is a bigger, faster, stronger and younger version of Hughes. I can see Hughes winning tho if Koscheck is not conditioned only have 3 weeks to prep. Should be a fun fight to watch. KOS by 2nd rd TKO

Kos will always be “conditioned” b/c he trains all year around & he’s a “wrestler” they have sick cardio & sick work ethic. Hughes will die in the 1st round by TKO/KO, if Hughes is lucky he just might get to sit on the lil chair for 60 secs b4 he sits on it after the fight asking… “what happened”. After this devastating TKO/KO Hughes should retire & pull a Chuck Liddell.

Bad fight for Hughes. The AKA guys have been angling for a fight with him for a few years now.

Wonder if the UFC has offered Koscheck the fight or if he’s just posturing and trying to make it happen.

Yeah I kno Fitch has been calling him out for a while even before Alves KOed him. If Fitch is healthy I am surprised he wasnt all over this

Stupid fight…Hughes will be killed by any of the aforementioned fighters…He is done. Really I think that Koscheck should fight the winner…or loser of Penn Condit…both interesting fights…

Hughes should just pass and not fight on this card. Bad fight for Hughes this late in his career
