The injuries just keep on mounting…

UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo is the latest casualty to the injury bug as he has been forced out of UFC 149 and his main event bout against Erik Koch.

In their place, UFC 148 loses its co-main event as Urijah Faber vs. Renan Barao has been moved over as the new main event in Calgary.

UFC officials confirmed the moves on Saturday evening.

There has been no word if Erik Koch will remain on the card against another opponent or not, but UFC officials have stated that another fight will be added to the show in the coming days.

UFC 149 already took two big hits over the last few days losing Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua as he moves over to headline UFC on Fox 4, while Michael Bisping dropped off the card due to injury as well.

Faber vs. Barao will battle in the new main event in a five round fight to determine an interim bantamweight champion while UFC champion Dominick Cruz rehabs from knee surgery that will keep him out until mid-2013. will have more information on the UFC 148 and UFC 149 cards when it becomes available.

Injuries, Judging, and Reffing are really the only things that suck in MMA.

And I was really looking forward to seeing Kotch getting knocked out.

  • JDM

This might now be the worst card ufc has ever had.

    • I cant tell if you are joking or not. Faber vs Barao and Nogueira vs Kongo are both great fights.

Nog vs Kongo not so much.

Should I even look forward to any fights in the future now?

    LOL Goodness.

The UFC seems to be in a slump right now. Maybe I’m crazy but everything is just falling apart with all of the cards. Injuries, drug tests, visas, quality match ups, relevant fights, rematches, low ratings, disgruntled employees and stars retiring have all just built into a huge time bomb…tick tick tick. I have faith that all will be well. 😉

    Here comes another interim title…

  • adice89

wtf. another stupid pointless belt. QUIT WITH THE INTERIM BELTS!!!

  • smill0313

There is no need for a featherweight interim champ (yet). Aldo has fought several times in the past year and it wont be long before he fights again. Koch is gotta be effing livid though.

  • maddawgmar

I was joking, there won’t be an interim title unless he can’t return til after next Jan.

But I do think that an interim title is pointless, if the champ is unable to defend his title in a timely fashion then they should be stripped. Example, Frank Mir after his motorcycle accident, got stripped and didn’t get a title shot after he came back.

I agree, its unfortunate but that’s what should happen. Maybe guys won’t go so crazy in the gym as well if the thought of being out of the title picture is in their head too

It’s nice that the fighters are insured, but I have a feeling you’d see less
of em pull out if they weren’t.

  • RubeKegal

I knew he would duck Koch

I think the UFC should do something to counteract the obvious effect of the UFC fully covering its fighters. This DID NOT used to happen that often. I’m not trying to say these injuries aren’t legit, but that’s not the issue.

The fighters need to be more careful. I think the UFC should give some kind of bonus for fighters who don’t pull out of fights. Again, I’m not trying to encourage fighters to fight hurt, but I think this would at least make the fighters be more careful while training and take the injuries more seriously.
