Both Jorge Gurgel and Chris Lytle are preparing to fight on next week’s UFC 73 event in Sacramento, Calif. Tonight both join Damon & Jeff on MMAWeekly Radio.
Though he is a veteran of second season of The Ultimate Fighter, Jorge Gurgel didn’t make his official UFC debut until he faced Mark Hominick at Ultimate Fight Night 5. He lost that fight, but returned in a winning effort against Danny Abbadi at UFC 63 in September of last year. He hasn’t fought since, due to a knee injury.
The “Bionic Brazilian” returns on Saturday, July 7 in Sacramento to face Diego Saraiva. This fight marks Saraiva’s second attempt in the UFC having lost in his debut to Dustin Hazelett, who happens to be trained by Jorge Gurgel.
Chris Lytle will also be making his return to the Octagon next week looking for a win. He lost his last two fights, both in the UFC, to Matt Serra and, more recently, Matt Hughes at UFC 68 in Columbus, Ohio. Lytle is a longtime UFC veteran first fighting in the UFC six and a half years ago. He is a journeyman that has found himself knocking on the door to a title shot several times, but can’t seem to break through.
He attempts to start another run and was originally slated to face Drew Fickett next week, but Fickett has been mysteriously removed from the UFC’s website today. So, we’ll check in with Lytle tonight to see how his preparations have been and if he knows yet who he will be fighting next week.
