UFC Fight Night 49: Henderson vs. dos Anjos co-main event fighter Jordan Mein is minus one cornerman after his father and trainer, James Lee Mein, was arrested by Tulsa police on Friday on allegations of sexual battery.
Lee Mein was arrested just prior to Friday’s weigh-ins and taken to a local jail.
Although he’s out of jail, he won’t be allowed to corner his son, according to UFC officials, who said that the allegations stem from accusations that Mein sexually assaulted a housekeeper at the UFC’s host hotel in Tulsa, Okla.
His son, however, will still face Mike Pyle on Saturday night at the BOK Center.
“We were made aware that James Lee Mein, father of UFC competitor Jordan Mein, was arrested yesterday on allegations of felony sexual assault. Mr. Mein is accused of sexually assaulting a housekeeper at the UFC’s host hotel in Tulsa, Okla.,” read the UFC’s official statement.
“The UFC finds the allegations against Mr. Mein deplorable and we fully support local law enforcement in its investigation. The UFC is also prohibiting Mr. Mein from attending tonight’s event should he post bail.”
Mein was released just past midnight after posting a $2,000 surety bond. Also an active fighter and head instructor at Canadian Martial Arts Centre in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, he is expected to appear in court on Aug. 29.
As of midday Saturday, UFC officials confirmed to MMAWeekly.com that Jordan Mein would still fight in the night’s co-main event.
