The Albuquerque Police Department on Sunday publicly called for UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones to break his silence and come in for questioning in relation to his possible involvement in a hit-and-run accident that occurred on Sunday in Albuquerque, N.M.

Although there were few initial details, on Monday secured a copy of the accident report from Albuquerque police. The report reveals some rather damning evidence.

A witness identified Jones as the driver of the vehicle believed to have caused the accident. But more than just being involved in the accident, Jones was said to have fled the scene with a “large handful of cash,” leaving behind marijuana paraphernalia with marijuana in it.

The accident took place on Sunday at 11:22 a.m. in Albuquerque, involving three cars. Jones allegedly ran a red light hitting a car with a pregnant woman driving it. He reportedly hit the car on the driver’s side, forcing it into the front end of another car that was stopped at a red light on the street Jones was initially travelling.

The drivers of both vehicles told police that the driver of vehicle causing the accident – later identified as Jones – fled the scene of the accident.

Jon Jones UFC 87_9111-Saturate-750“Witnesses and drivers from both (of the other vehicles involved in the accident: vehicles 1 and 2) stated driver of vehicle 3 (Jones’ alleged vehicle) got out and left running,” the accident report stated.

“Witnesses stated the driver of vehicle 3 exited after hitting the Honda and was identified as a black male wearing a white button up shirt with dark pants on and ran onto a hill just East of the accident. Witnesses stated he slouched over and ran back to the vehicle grabbing a large handful of cash. Witnesses stated he shoved the cash into his pants and ran north jumping the fence onto Terracita.”

The drivers of vehicles 1 and 2 apparently did not identify the fleeing driver as Jones, but a witness that was not involved in the accident did. Police also found paperwork in vehicle 3, which was a rental car, linking the vehicle to Jones.

The officers on the scene also found marijuana and marijuana paraphernalia in the vehicle.

“Officer Brionez found a marijuana pipe with marijuana inside of it and tagged it into evidence. (Officer Benavidez, who submitted the accident report) located paperwork belonging to a Jonathan Jones, which had MMA information on it from the State of Nevada. I was able to locate a phone number for Jon Jones and placed several phone calls with no success. I left a message for Jon Jones to call dispatch, but never received one,” the report continued.

Reporting officer Benavidez went on to say that he was later contacted by Officer J. Sullivan, an off-duty officer that was a witness to the accident.

“Officer Sullivan stated he witnessed Jonathan Jones, the MMA fighter, exit the silver Buick (vehicle 3) and run up a dirt hill just East. Officer Sullivan stated Jones was wearing a white nice polo-style shirt, with dark slacks or jeans. Officer Sullivan stated he watch Jon Jones run back to the Buick and lost sight of him at this point.”

Not only did Sullivan lose sight of Jones, so did the Albuquerque Police Department. The police department made several attempts to contact Jones personally and via his lawyer, and also issued a public statement on the City of Albuquerque’s website on Sunday requesting that Jones contact the department.

Albuquerque police officer Tanner Tixier told that, as of Monday mid-morning, neither Jones nor his representatives had been in contact with the police department.

Jones is currently scheduled to face Anthony Johnson in the UFC 187 main event on May 23 in Las Vegas. UFC officials have yet to indicate whether or not they are considering pulling him from the fight.

“We are aware that the Albuquerque Police Department is interested in speaking to Jon Jones regarding his possible involvement in a motor vehicle accident,” UFC officials said late Sunday. “We are in the process of gathering facts and will reserve further comment until more information is available.”

Time to go buh bye Jones. They need to put Johnson and the #2 guy in the fight for the title. Jones needs to be stripped and sent to jail.

    • DamianCross

Agreed, but Johnson already took out the #2 guy..

      • Collideoverme

I said this in another post…Cerrone will fight 😉

    • The Rampage

There’s no one for Johnson to fight except Bader for the interim. Gus and DC are coming off loses.

      • Collideoverme

        Cerrone will fight…lol

    • Collideoverme

Well, I got it half right…I guess the #2 guy is Cormier. It’s just more interesting.

  • keith

    Suspend and cut his ass.

    • taylor2008

I totally agree! Too many good straight fighters out there that care about their lives and careers.

      • ruler

Steroids are drugs. Very dangerous drugs. How many fighters do you think are on steroids? So much for your clean fighters that care about their lives. So i guess the sport is filled with druggies doing illegal drugs. But somehow you guys make an exception for steroids.

        • taylor2008

What are you talking about? How about thinking before you post a brain dead post! I NEVER said I support any of the fighters that do steroids. You remind of of that moron Sarge that assumes everything. I have said MANY times in many other posts that I do NOT like any athletes doing any type of drugs. Whether its weed, cocaine or steroids.
When you get a chance read my post one more time and understand what I said! I said there are many straight fighters out there that care about their lives and careers. I hope you do know that most of the fighters in MMA do not do drugs of ANY kind. Learn to read!

  • jimmy777

WTF was he thinking? Smoking weed a month before his fight? Running a light, hitting a car and running away on foot in broad daylight? Really??? DUMBASS!!!!! UFC contract GONE!!!

  • Hugh Shakeshaft

What is up with Jon Jones?

  • Barry H

Burger King was about to close in 2 minutes!!

    • KJK

Must have been something like this….dude returns to the scene for cash.

  • DamianCross

In before “oh well its mostly legal now” and “he just made a mistake”

  • Seatired

UFC will not fire Jon Jones. They are going to continue giving him money and do everything possible to make this go away from the public view. When Jones got his first DUI i said I would never watch UFC as long as Jones was fighting for them. Well, that was a lie, but I really mean it this time! I will never watch UFC as long as Jones is the champ. ;S

  • Sir_Roy

    Anyone really overly surprised?

    Overgrown man child.

  • The Milkman

I like jones as a fighter but if he gets another slap on the wrist for this then what kind of example is that for when less popular fighters slip up? A cancelled ppv, a press conference brawl, a DUI, failed test for coke and now a hit and run with with weed left behind and who knows, maybe he was drunk again. Great fighter but god damn is he dumb and certainly doesn’t learn from his mistakes.

    • KJK

“Great fighter but god damn is he dumb”…..agreed but somehow almost understated.

      • defilingsoul

        Idiot savant confirmed

        • KJK

      • The Milkman

        I was being nice

    • Guest

The cancelled ppv wasn’t jones to blame for, that was Hendo’s fault for getting injured and not informing UFC earlier about it!!!

  • Sad to see jones do things like this.. while the peak of his career.. he looks stupid on the video while running away shown recently

  • ☃ Brad ☃

Jones wont serve any time for this. hes got lawyer $

  • KJK

This is so ridiculous that’s it’s funny (thankfully no one appears seriously hurt)…..picture the light heavy weight champion of the world fence hopping in a polo with a fist full of cash while leaving the Buick behind….guess he needed some green backs for when the munchies kick in. Who knows what he did next….picture this……Greg….it’s Jon…crunch, crunch, crunch (chips)….I had a fender bender and may have not handled it properly…….can’t wait to see how this one plays out!!!

  • KJK

I just thought of something….Connor needs to sell Jones his nickname rights!

  • taylor2008

This is a joke! I am no longer a Jones fan. Tired of him and his antics! Too many other good fighters out there that are good guys and want to make a living. And some fighters that were not good people, but cleaned up their acts and now are straight.
Sorry but something has to be done about this! All these morons acting like they are worried about Jones….who cares about Jones?! That lady was pregnant and lucky her and her baby are ok. The baby could have died. She could have died, or both! Jones only cares about Jones and didnt even worry if he hurt someone. If Jones fights I hope Rumble gives him a beating!

“For non-medical use, New Mexico’s marijuana laws are less draconian than those of most states. Possession of one ounce or less of marijuana for non-medical purposes is punishable by a $50-100 fine and up to 15 days in jail.”

It’s going to be a slap on the wrist and the UFC can’t afford to pull him from the card. It’s a shame that the law tells people to run from an accident and sober up. The penalty is way less than a DUI. Now even I can say he has a problem. Doing coke in private on your own time is one thing, but getting high while driving down the street at noon is bad.

      • taylor2008

Not only did they find weed and all that in the car, but he went back for a bunch of money. There is a good chance he might have been selling it. Why do you have a bunch of cash laying around in a car? There is probably more to this.
Other fighters have had their share of problems but have cleaned up their act. Jones never will.

        • TheCerealKiller

“Officer Brionez found a marijuana pipe with marijuana inside of it” Do you know how much weed fits in a pipe? Not even a quarter once. He needs to take a GSP break and figure out what he wants to do.

          • taylor2008

Jones will not pass his drug test and they will be getting fingerprints off everything. He will be slapped with a criminals case and probably a civil lawsuit from the pregnant lady. So you can say bye bye to Jones!

          • Darin

He’s a felon and a fugitive. Any other UFC fighter, and I mean ANY other UFC fighter, except for maybe GSP if he were still fighting, would be already sh-t canned over this.

          • TheCerealKiller

My comment is 5 hours old. The new details are pretty damning. Kind of sucks if this is how the best fighter gets beat.

          • Darin

It happens. The guys with the biggest talent often have the most glaring flaws. I guess everything kinda evens out in the end that way. This shows how much respect guys like GSP, Aldo, or Mighty Mouse deserve for constantly being told they’re the best and not letting it go to their head and think they can do whatever they want and get away with it.

  • taylor2008

Jones is done. They will search the interior of the car and the pipe for prints. Once they match the prints Jones will probably be charged with a felony this time. Drugs and a hit and run? Not to mention he will have a criminal case against him and most likely a civil suit from the pregnant lady.

    Sorry but Jones is toast!

I can’t believe he’d do this I thought he was a good guy, he will go to jail for this.
He will be able to handle himself in jail that is the only positive in this story.

    • Darin

No he won’t. A guy like him, with his fame, will have a bullseye on his back. This ain’t the movies, son. 5 dudes with shanks will have no problem overcoming Jones’ “reach advantage”. The only positive to this story is that Dana may finally overcome his money boner with Jones and just cut him loose for good.

      • BRANDY

True true and true, he won’t even mix with the inmates.

      • smytime

He definitely would be separated from other inmates with how big of a public view he is. Come on. No ones touching him.

  • ufc fan

Maybe they should hold an interim championship for now. After the legal issues are resolved, winner gets Jones for the title.

    • Darin

Or just fire Jones and be done with that piece of s–t altogether.

  • NotoriusD

Scumbag Jones strikes again! You can only be a scumbag P.O.S. for so long until it catches up to you. Even better, Im sure they pregnant lady he hit will order up a sizeable civil suit on his scumbag ass.
