A Dan Henderson injury knocked him out of the main event with Jon Jones, while Jones declined a short-notice replacement fight against Chael Sonnen.
White’s fuse was lit and he leveled a heavy dose of criticism at his light heavyweight champ and his head trainer, Greg Jackson, for declining the fight. Jones has been under fire since, finding himself more on the defensive than he’s ever been in any of his fights in the Octagon.
Jones is now scheduled to face former 205-pound champ Vitor Belfort at UFC 152 on Sept. 22 in Toronto.
But whether or not Jones and White repair their relationship remains to be seen. As White said on Monday night’s edition of Inside MMA on AXS TV, “Jon Jones and I haven’t talked since the whole incident. We’ll see what happens.”
“I had to do what’s right for myself by turning down that fight, Dana had to do what was right for himself by putting the blame on everyone else except for himself,” Jones told The Associate Press recently. “The lesson to be learned is, at the end of the day, you have to protect yourself and your family.”
