The Ultimate Fighting Championship on Friday confirmed two bantamweight bouts for UFC 130: Edgar vs. Maynard III in Las Vegas.
Originally expected for “The Ultimate Fighter Season 13 Finale,” No. 8 ranked Demetrious Johnson will square off with Renan “Barao” do Nascimento Mota Pegado.
Johnson (8-1) returns to action at UFC 128 riding a three-fight winning streak that included back-to-back wins over Damacio Page and Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto.
Known by most fans simply as Renan Barao, the Nova Uniao fighter will make his third appearance under the Zuffa umbrella against Johnson. The Brazilian has submitted two opponents in two chances when he was in the WEC
Also announced for the UFC 130 fight card is a welterweight bout between the aforementioned Yamamoto Chris Cariaso.
Yamamoto made his much-anticipated Octagon debut at UFC 126 on Feb. 5, where he lost the bout to Johnson. Still acclimating to the UFC, he will look to bounce back against Cariaso.
Cariaso enters the bout 2-1 in Zuffa promoted fights. He last fought at UFC Fight For The Troops 2 in January, where he won a unanimous decision over Will Campuzano.
UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar and challenger Gray Maynard headline UFC 130, facing each other for the third time in their careers. The two fought to a draw at UFC 125 on New Year’s Day.
