The Ultimate Fighter Season 14 competitor Johnny Bedford was all set to do battle with Eddie Wineland on the Chicagoan’s home turf at UFC on Fox 2, until the injury bug bit Wineland. Beford will remain on the card, however, with a new opponent.
UFC officials on Wednesday announced that Octagon newbie Mitch Gagnon has stepped up to face Bedford at UFC on Fox 2 on Jan. 28 at the United Center in Chicago.
Bedford (18-9-1) fared well on TUF, losing only to teammate and eventual winner John Dodson in the semifinals. He then went on to take out the green-haired Louis Gaudinot on the TUF 14 Finale via a third-round TKO with brutal knees to the body.
Gagnon (8-1) makes his way to the Octagon by submitting every single opponent that he’s defeated. It’s a big step up for the Canadian, however, fighting for the first time outside of his home country and for the biggest MMA promotion in the world.
UFC on Fox 2 features a triple-bill with Rashad Evans vs. Phil Davis, Chael Sonnen vs. Mark Munoz, and Michael Bisping vs. Demian Maia televised on the Fox main card.
