MMAWeekly received word from World Extreme Cagefighting officials that Joe “Diesel” Riggs has had to pull out of tonight’s planned fight with Hiromitsu Miura due to a back injury.
According to Scott Lewis of Pavia, Ciscone, & Associates – Riggs’ management company – Riggs has had a bulging disc in his lower back for quite some time, but thus far has been able to fight through it. He was hitting the mitts last night to stay loose, when his back started to act up and he felt numbness in his leg. Upon advice of an orthopedic specialist, Riggs withdrew from the fight.
At this late stage in the game, the day of the fight, it is obviously too late to install a replacement fighter, but the WEC fight card remains one of their strongest ever with 3 title fights still intact and seven non-title bouts on the undercard.
