Jim Miller and Jamie Varner Set to Compete in Spartan Race

Posted on by MMAWeekly.com Staff

It’s said quite often that mixed martial artists are some of the most elite athletes in the world regardless of which sport or competition you’re talking about.

Fighters like Nick Diaz have competed in triathlons, and now two current UFC competitors are going to try their hands at obstacle racing.

UFC lightweight Jim Miller and UFC welterweight Jamie Varner have signed on to compete in Spartan Race, a touring obstacle course race that lasts anywhere from 3 miles all the way to a 40-mile ‘death course’.

Spartan Race combines several different events into one obstacle course where athletes are expected to run, swim, jump, climb and in some instances avoid barbed wire.

“As a UFC athlete I am always looking for ways to challenge myself physically and mentally at the highest levels and Spartan Race is the perfect opportunity for me to do so. I am looking forward to participating in the September event in my home state of New Jersey,” said Jim Miller.

Both Miller and Varner will compete in upcoming events this year as Spartan Race tours the United States and Europe throughout their ‘season’.

Check out the tutorial below to see what Miller and Varner will be getting themselves into:

Great way to stay in shape and competitive between fights. Can’t wait.

i was hoping the title meant they were fighting, but that’s cool too

Wow, when I saw the headline, I thought they were fighting, and thought: poor J. Varner. They’re not giving him any passes in the UFC.

I’m glad it’s just a race. For the fight, I hope they give Varner someone a little easier, so he can work his way into the top 10. I’m still very impressed by the Barbosa KO and even his loss to Lauzon.
