Phil Davis finally has a new opponent for UFC 129 in Toronto and he’ll now face Jason Brilz in a light heavyweight bout on the card.
Davis was originally scheduled to face Matt Hamill on the April card, but the UFC opted to pull the former “Ultimate Fighter” competitor to face Quinton “Rampage” Jackson in May instead, leaving the former NCAA champion without an opponent.
He’s opponent-less no more.
Sources close to the negotiations confirmed the bout to MMAWeekly.com on Thursday with verbal agreements in place, and bout agreements likely to follow. MMAJunkie.com first reported the rumored bout.
Jason Brilz (18-3-1) returns to action in the first time in almost a year after suffering injuries that kept him out of his last scheduled fight. The Nebraska native has gone 3-2 during his time with the UFC, and enters the Toronto fight card coming off a very controversial loss to Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in his last bout.
It’s unclear at this time what slot the fight between Davis and Brilz will occupy as far as television goes, but the UFC is expected to make a formal announced about the card in the coming weeks.
