UFC officials on Wednesday confirmed a report by The Arizona Republic that Varner would face Drew Dober at the US Airways Center.
Varner (21-10-1, 2 NCs) has struggled since returning for his second tenure in the Octagon. His current UFC run sees him with a 2-4 record, having lost his last four bouts.
He is coming off of a TKO stoppage loss to James Krause at UFC 173 in May.
Like Varner, Dober (14-6) could well be fighting for his spot on the UFC roster. He has fought twice in the Octagon, losing both bouts.
Dober most recently dropped a unanimous decision to Nick Hein at UFC Fight Night: Mousasi vs. Munoz, also in May.
A UFC on FOX 13 main event is expected to be announced shortly.
