UFC Fight Night 25: Battle on the Bayou now has its main event. Former Strikeforce middleweight champion and UFC welterweight contender Jake Shields faces Jake Ellenberger in the headline fight on the card.

MMAWeekly.com first reported the bout as in the works on Monday, and on Tuesday the UFC made the fight official for the main event in New Orleans.

The bout goes down on Sept. 17 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.

Shields returns to action for the first time since losing his bid to become UFC welterweight champion when he dropped a unanimous decision to Georges St-Pierre at UFC 129 in April. The one-time Strikeforce and EliteXC champion will look to rebound when he headlines another UFC event in September.

Facing Shields will be the always tough Jake Ellenberger, who has won his last four fights in a row. Ellenberger has been calling for a fight with Shields for months and now he gets his wish.

The two Jakes will face off in September headlining the UFC Fight Night 25 fight card in New Orleans.

so is it gonna be a 3 or 5 round fight?

  • Chelsea

Only a 3 round fight because neither Jake’s have the belt. 5 round fights are for championships, this is not a championship bout.

    MW or WW?

    • Chelsea

      WW at 170lbs.

@JMONEY and @Chelsea……….I dont want to be rude, but where the hell have you been? They changed the rule that all non title fight main events are now 5-5min rounds. It was supposes to start with marquardt vs story……but that was obviously scratched.

ufc on versus 4 was just the first event to be held after the announcement, which said all main event fights signed after that day would be 5 rounds. so that means that something like phil davis vs rashad evans will be the last non 5 round and presumably lytle vs hardy is the first
