The UFC made the fight official on Wednesday with bout agreements to be issued shortly.
Currently on a six-fight win streak, Jake Ellenberger has earned his nickname ‘The Juggernaut’ over his past several fights. The Nebraska native finished off former welterweight title contender Jake Shields and Sean Pierson with back-to-back knockouts before pulling off a unanimous decision victory over Diego Sanchez in February.
Now Ellenberger faces another stiff test at 170lbs, with an almost guaranteed shot at the title should he get the win.
Martin Kampmann has had 14 fights in the UFC, but is still waiting for his first shot at a title in the organization.
He may very well earn that if he can get past Jake Ellenberger this summer. Kampmann has seemingly been one fight away from title contention on a couple of occasions in the past, but come up just short.
Now on a two-fight win streak after defeating Thiago Alves at UFC on FX 2 earlier this month, Kampmann seems poised for a potential title shot if he can get past Ellenberger in June.
The main event fight between Ellenberger and Kampmann will be a five round main event taking place in Las Vegas on June 1 in conjunction with the Ultimate Fighter Live finale.
