Jacare-Souza-019-SF-478x270Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza will face Francis Carmount in the UFC’s return to Brazil on Feb. 15, UFC officials announced on Tuesday.

Souza and Carmont will co-headline the card on Fox Sports 1, which takes place at the Arena Jaragua in Jaragua do Sul, Santa Catarina, Brazil.

Jacare burst into the UFC with consecutive finishes, the first over Chris Camozzi at UFC on FX 8 last May, the following over Yushin Okami at UFC Fight Night 28 in September. The former Strikeforce middleweight champion has won five in a row since losing the 185-pound belt to fellow Strikeforce import Luke Rockhold.

Carmont is undefeated in the UFC, winning all six of his Octagon appearances, the latest being a unanimous decision over Costa Philippou. Additionally, the Tristar teammate of Georges St-Pierre hasn’t experienced a professional loss since 2008, winning 11 fights in a row during that time.

The UFC Fight Night card will be headlined by a middleweight match-up between former light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida against Gegard Mousasi.

The upcoming card was originally scheduled to take place on Feb. 8, but was moved to Feb. 15, according to UFC officials. No details were given as to why the date for the card changed.

I hope Souza wins but something tells me Francis takes it by decision.

You are crazy, Jacare is going to eat Carmont alive. I’m going Jacare by cannibalism.

      • Daniel

ur an idiot carmont is way to fukin big for jacare

        • Jay Mcgarrity

Carmont’s only notable win is against Phillipou with a very lack luster performance and he barely got past Lawlor. Carmont may be improving but to call him too big for the former strikeforce champion who has beaten several notable fighters is just ignorant. You are probably just a GSP ****rider who thinks that Carmont is godly because he trains with GSP. Carmont could win this fight and your comment would still be ignorant and wrong but you are probably too stupid to understand that. Peace retard, “ur” dumb

Carmont is strong no doubt, but Jacare is on another level. Jacare wins by crazy sub..

Agree to disagree. We shall see.

Souza will go through him like a hot knife through butter…

I would’ve liked to have seen Jacare get somebody tougher but literally all the middleweights either just fought or have scheduled bouts. This isn’t an easy fight but definitely a fight where Souza has more to lose and less to gain here. If Souza gets past Carmont I would like to see him fight the loser of Silva vs Weidman or Machida to potentially get that spot after Vitor.

really isn’t anyone else ranked that’s free and uninjured

Everyone either just fought or is signed to an upcoming bout, pretty sure Bisping is still out with the eye injury for a while yet. Jacare needs this win and then the winner of Machida vs Mousasi to lock a title shot down. I kind of feel bad for Bisping as he was kind of on the cusp of a title shot for a while and now there are a ton of guys moving up and passing him while he injured.

With Weidman just beating Silva, the Strikeforce guys who came over, and Machida and Mousasi recently moving to MW, the MW division is one of the most exciting divisions right now IMO.

Finnaly someone who’s going to beat up Carmont.

I wonder how carmont’s lay-and-pray strategy will work out this time.
