It Was All or Nothing for Ben Rothwell at UFC 145

With a 1-2 record heading into UFC 145, Ben Rothwell’s plan was pretty easy – win big or go home.

The former IFL fighter admittedly had rough performances thus far in his Octagon career, and through three fights had hardly lived up to his own potential.

After building a new team in Wisconsin, Rothwell felt that he had the right pieces put together to win in his fight against Brendan Schaub, but he wasn’t giving himself many options either.

Rothwell knew he needed to win and win big, and that’s how things turned out for him.

Check out this interview with Ben Rothwell following his ‘Knockout of the Night’ performance over Brendan Schaub at UFC 145:

    (1) From the way Rothwell and Nog handled Schaub, the way Schaub handled Gonzaga, and the way Hunt handled Cheick Kongo, Cro Cop was past his prime by the time he came over to the UFC.

    (2) Prime Cro Cop would have killed Frank Mir.

    (3) Ben Rothwell will get pushed out of the UFC very soon once he starts fighting top 10 guys.

#3 is correct. It really sucks he didn’t lose to Schaub especially with the cocksucker look he had on his face

    • Lesnardo

lol..give him a break. He just seems like a really awkward guy in real life.

Now all that is left for Rothwell is replacing Nelson as the punching bag of the HW division.

I’ve never seen a guy look worse when he get’s KO’d than Brendan Schaub. He always looks like he’s making a stupid face on purpose.

    • Lesnardo

Let me ask you a question.

If you are in your mid to late 20’s and you can’t beat guys like Ben Rothwell, is it safe to assume that you will never get a title shot?

If the answer is yes, should you continue fighting?

      • Triggerman99

I would have to say no, it’s not safe to assume that.
Sometimes all it takes is a few tweaks to your game. Look at Patrick Cote. He was never anywhere near sniffing distance of a title shot until after the TUF comeback show, and then poof; he goes on a tear and he’s fighting Silva.

But in Schaub’s case directly, I would say he’s not gonna get a shot ever. He doesn’t really have that one scary skill that he can ride out when things get tough. But why not keep trying?
