Following three successful shows to introduce themselves to fans in 2012, Invicta FC will move into the pay-per-view game with its next show in January.
The all-women’s MMA organization had three highly successful shows that aired on the internet this year, but starting with the Invicta FC 4 card, the promotion will now begin internet pay-per-view offerings.
According to Invicta FC president Shannon Knapp, this really was the natural progression of the promotion as it continues to grow and build towards the future.
“In 2012, we went out there and we gave everything away and tried to build the brand. That was our objective to get in there and building the brand, awareness, and kind of acclimating people to seeing a promotion like this,” Knapp told MMAWeekly Radio.
“I think we were extremely successful in what we set out to do, a lot above and beyond some of my wildest expectations.”
Those expectations landed with hundreds of thousands of viewers on the internet streams for their past three shows, so as they head towards their Jan. 5 fight card, the plan is to begin monetizing through pay-per-view revenue like other promotions such as the UFC.
“As any business as we move into 2013, we’re going to look for ways to monetize, and this seems like the most logical next step to go ahead and offer it on the pay-per-view on the internet,” said Knapp.
Other MMA promotions in the past have come out on day one with a pay-per-view debut, but numbers have always struggled even with some of the bigger names in the sport headlining the cards. With no guarantees on production or show value, fans have always been hesitant to put up money with no idea what the final product they’re buying will look like.
That’s why Invicta FC did things differently and gave away its first three shows for free. Now there are no surprises for fans wondering about paying their hard earned money for an MMA card on the internet.
“Stated very simply, we put our money where our mouth is. We went out there, we showed you what we could do, we put on great shows, the athletes put on amazing performances and to come in now, this is just a natural progression,” Knapp stated.
“We haven’t found a television deal yet, so as you move into 2013 you find a way to monetize, that’s how you sustain a business and to continue to grow, and help as far as the athletes and find more value to them.”
No price has been set for the pay-per-view yet, but an announcement from Invicta FC should be forthcoming in the next few days.
Invicta FC 4 goes down on Jan. 5 from Kansas City with their fifth show targeted for April 2013.
“This is part of the growth process,” Knapp said on closing. “To continue to move into the position we want to go.”
