Invicta FC 6 has been bitten again by the injury bug.
Featherweight Julia Budd and strawweight Sarah Schneider have been forced off of the July 13 fight card due to injuries.
Invicta officials moved swiftly, however, and already have replacements in place for both fighters.
Charmaine Tweet has stepped up to in place of Budd against Ediane Gomes, and Norma Center has agreed to take Schneider’s spot opposite Joanne Calderwood.
Invicta FC 6 is slated for July 13 at Ameristar Casino Hotel in Kansas City. It features a rematch between Cris Cyborg Justino and Marloes Coenen in the main event. The two will battle for the inaugural Invicta featherweight championship.
Invicta FC 6 also marks the promotion’s first foray into traditional cable and satellite pay-per-view.
Tweet (4-3) had a rough start to her career, losing three of her first four professional fights, but has rebounded over the past year, winning three consecutive fights.
Gomes (10-2) is on an impressive streak of her own, winning her last four bouts, including victories over Hiroko Yamanaka and Leslie Smith. Her last defeat was to current UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey.
The bout is Tweet’s first for the promotion, while Gomes is trying to put herself in the mix for a shot at the featherweight champion.
Calderwood (6-0) has been positioning herself for a shot at the strawweight belt, winning both of her previous Invicta bouts. She now faces Center (2-0), an undefeated newcomer out of Jackson’s MMA that won five amateur bouts before she turned pro.
