The International Fight League on Tuesday officially announced the match-ups for its inaugural World Grand Prix finals set to take place on Dec. 29.
One of the biggest changes noted is that undefeated lightweight Chris Horodecki is now facing Shad Lierley for the 155-pound title, while the fighter who earned his shot at the lightweight title, Wagnney Fabiano, will now drop to featherweight and fight L.C. Davis for a new 145-pound championship instead.
The move was unexpected considering Fabiano’s undefeated run through the IFL team match-ups at lightweight during season play and his win in the semifinals over John Gunderson.
Horodecki defeated Lierley in an exciting fight earlier this year. This time the bout will be for the first ever IFL lightweight championship.
The promotion announced that Fabiano’s move to featherweight is permanent for a division that will continue in the 2008 season.
“Moving Wagnney to his natural featherweight, and having a worthy opponent such as L.C. already in the league, shows our depth of talent and also sets up a great rematch between Chris and Shad for their natural lightweight title,” said IFL commissioner Kurt Otto.
The remainder of the preliminary and finals match-ups were also announced with no other changes being made to the championship bouts in the remaining weight classes.
The IFL Grand Prix finals will take place in Uncasville, Conn. at the Mohegan Sun Arena.
