According to Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports, Hong-Man Choi – scheduled to face Brock Lesnar in the main event of the troubled Dynamite! USA event next week – has been denied a license by the California State Athletic Commission on medical grounds. Iole confirmed the information with FEG USA’s Mike Kogan. FEG is one of the co-promoters of the event.

Kogan is attempting to seek a favorable opinion from a second doctor and seemed surprised that Choi was not able to gain clearance initially. Saying to Iole, “I think he can fight, because he fought (in a kickboxing show) in Hawaii on April 28 and he’s all right. But if the second doctor comes to the same conclusion as the first, I have to deal with it.”

In addition to the troubles with Choi, at the time of publication, FEG has still not been able to secure a promoter’s license in California. They submitted financial documents to the commission yesterday, but those documents were deemed insufficient.

A representative of the athletic commission was unavailable for comment at the time of publication of this article.
