Former TKO Featherweight Champion and UFC veteran Mark Hominick is set to square off with ADCC Champion Rani Yahira at WEC 28. MMAWeekly spoke with WEC Co-General Manager Scott Adams, who confirmed that Hominick will be making his WEC debut on June 3rd against Yahira.
Hominick is coming off a disappointing loss to Hatsu Hioki at TKO 28, losing a controversial decision to the TKO Featherweight Champion. Hominick still had several fights left on his UFC contract at lightweight, where he has gone 2-0 with wins over Yves Edwards and Jorge Gurgel, but opted to transfer the remainder of his contract over to the WEC to compete at featherweight, a more natural weight for the Canadian.
Yahira will also be making his WEC debut, coming off the biggest accomplishment of his career by winning ADCC at featherweight by submitting grappling legend Leo Vieira in the finals. Yahira last saw action in an MMA ring at Palace Fighting Championships 2, where he submitted Louie Moreno in the first round.
The WEC event on June 3rd is also the promotion’s live debut on the Versus network.
