Herschel Walker’s return to the MMA cage will have to wait a little longer, as the former Heisman Trophy winner has been forced out of his fight next weekend with a cut suffered during training.
According to Strikeforce officials speaking to MMAWeekly.com on Wednesday, Walker was cut in training and required 7 stitches to close the wound.
“I feel terrible about this,’’ said Walker, who was cut from a knee strike while training with AKA teammate and two-time United States Olympic wrestling team member Daniel Cormier. “I know things like this happen in all sports, but I had trained very hard and was excited to be returning to the cage again. I hope to fight again as soon as the cut heals.’’
Due to the cut and the timing before the fight, Walker will not be able to fight on the Dec 4 card against Scott Carson.
Walker is expected to return to the Strikeforce cage in 2011.
