Hector Lombard Wants to Fight at UFC Fight Night 33 in Brisbane After Successful Welterweight Debut

Posted on by Andrew Potter

Hector Lombard thumb Hector Lombard has made a late plea to fight in front of his family at UFC Fight Night 33 in Brisbane on Dec. 6 (Dec. 7 in Australia) after a successful welterweight debut, knocking out Nate Marquardt at UFC 166 in Houston on Saturday night.

Lombard is Cuban born, but has adopted Australia as his home country.

“I want to fight in front of my son, friends and fans in Australia,” Lombard said post-fight.

He joined the UFC as a middleweight in July of 2012, but after going 1-2 in his first three fights, the decision was made for him to drop down to welterweight.

“A few people doubted me that I could make 170 (pounds), but I did it easier than when I was 185,” Lombard said. “I think Dana White, Joe Silva, and the rest of the UFC was right for me to cut down to 170.”

Lombard’s only previous win in the UFC before Saturday night was on the Gold Coast in Australia, where he knocked out the recently exiled Rousimar Palhares.

“He looked great tonight,” UFC president Dana White said. “Dan Lambert texted me right after the fight and said come on, give him a fight in Australia. You know what Joe Silva is like, he said that card is packed. We’ll see if we can squeeze him in on the card.”

On the UFC Post Fight Show on Fox Sports 2, Chael Sonnen made a plea for Nick Diaz to make a comeback to fighting and step in the Octagon with Lombard, saying that the Cuban was simply undersized at middleweight.

Give it to him after that performance he deserves it.

    • Mark McDowall

A knockout is always a good way to make a statement. But lets be real…He’s 2-2 in the UFC and this win against Marquardt while impressive…it was against Marquardt. Who in his own words announced that he is loosing because he is being punished by God?!?! It’s a win yes..but really not as impressive as it comes across…Marqaurdt is a Bellator WW competitor in the near future.

What are you talking about he’s asking for location not a title fight.

Mark McDowall… You are an idiot.

  • Cereal Killer

Give him Ben Askren! That would be poetic justice.

    • El Gvapo

Don’t give anyone Askren, too dull.

    • cs

Bellator said they wouldn’t allow Ben Askren to fight in the UFC unless it was for a title shot, so I don’t see why Lombard would ever fight Ben Askren.

There’s so many sick match ups u can make with this guy. Id love to see him throw down with Lawler, Matt brown, ellenberger or alves. I think he has the strength to stop a lot of the wrestlers at WW too. If he doesnt fight on the Aus card he should fight the winner of Kos/Woodley.

  • Anthony S. Garrone

Give him either Josh Koscheck or Matt Brown! I think they will be good match ups for him.

    • Kyle Pollard

I like the Kos match up. But Kos won’t want to stand with him. It’ll be like the Paul Daley fight.

  • Eric Adams

    Shields VS Lombard

  • Mark

I don’t care who it is he fights, just let him fight someone in Australia. I’d love to see the guy live, give him someone like Kampmann, Alves or Akiyama. The show is already stacked but this would make it one of the best looking free shows of 2013 in my opinion
