Mixed martial arts is invading the ESPY Awards.

MMA is slowly working its way into the mainstream of American society. Friday’s ESPN announcement for its annual ESPY Awards included two UFC fighters and one Strikeforce fighter, further bolstering that claim.

UFC titleholders Georges St-Pierre, who has been nominated before, and Jon Jones, as well as Strikeforce heavyweight Fabricio Werdum, are up for the 2011 ESPY Awards.

St-Pierre and Jones are both nominated for “Best Fighter.” Besides each other, they are up against boxers Manny Pacquiao, Bernard Hopkins, and Sergio Martinez.

Werdum has been nominated for “Best Upset” for submitting Fedor Emelianenko, who was then widely considered the top heavyweight in the sport.

This is the third time St-Pierre has been nominated, all three times in the “Best Fighter” category. Jones and Werdum are both first-time nominees.

Fans can vote on the both categories, as well as 31 others, up until July 9, on ESPN’s official ESPY Awards website. The awards show, hosted by comedian Seth Meyers, will air on July 13 on ESPN.

Thats BS that Anderson Silva isn’t on that list of ‘Best Fighter’ if both GSP and Jones are… and how could you be considered “Best fighter” if you didn’t finish anyone in that year?

how u gonna hate on Jones? he walked through everyone to take to title. Anderson should be mentioned but he has had some boring ass fights like GSP.

Let me rephrase, I’m not saying anyone should be excluded I’m just saying Anderson should be included in that list. Also “boring ass fights” weren’t in the past year and thats what the award is for. I would put Jones on the list but, Anderson too. Prob not GSP though since he doesn’t finish… hell they should have him fight Fitch and then give the tape of that to insomnia patients. Yet, nobody rips GSP for not finishing… hmm

everbody rips on gsp for not finishing lol

    you is ignorant, brah

and at the end of the day, it’s not like gsp is failing to finish people that others have finished or fighters that are known to have weak chins.

he makes people look bad and he’ll always be a fighter for the educated fan more than the casual bar goer on a saturday night. not saying i wouldn’t love to see him rock’em sock’em too, but that’s not the reality of the situation lol.

i bet if he loses his title he’ll come out like a bat out of hell for the comeback.
