Gabriel Gonzaga - UFC 96

UFC 153: Aldo vs. Koch is still two months out, but the fight card is filling up fast.

The latest bout added to the card is a heavyweight battle between Gabriel Gonzaga and Geronimo dos Santos, two Brazilians that will be fighting on their home turf on Oct. 13 in Rio de Janeiro.

MMAWeekly.com confirmed that verbal agreements for the bout are in place after Tatame.com first reported the match-up.

Gonzaga (13-6) is on his second run through the UFC, having returned at UFC 142 earlier this year, also in Brazil. It took him just over three minutes to choke out Ednaldo Oliveira, an impressive return that he’d like to build on.

Fighting on his home turf is nothing new for dos Santos (34-14), however. Currently riding a 12 fight winning streak, he has rarely fought anywhere outside of his home country. This will, however, be dos Santos’ first fight in the Octagon.

UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo and challenger Erik Koch headline the Oct. 13 fight card at the HSBC Arena.

Geronimo being in UFC is joke. Here’s his opponents records on his 10(NOT 12) fight win streak:

    3-8
    2-5
    1-2
    7-3
    18-11
    0-2
    1-8
    0-1
    0-2
    3-3

Geronimo’s most impressive win is over 18-11 Antonio Mendes who was 0-2 in UFC and is 3-7 in last 10….did I mention he is a 205 pounder and Geronimo is 264 lbs? Gonzaga will make quick work of this juicehead.

Since when do you have to be an elite fighter to be in the UFC?

UFC always had a mixture of top and bottom tier fighters.

UFC needs stepping stones, tomato cans, journey men, and gatekeepers.

I do have a problem with it. There are much more deserving guys out there who can be in his spot. UFC has no room for tomato cans anymore, too many solid prospects out there.
