Gabriel Gonzaga Out; Dave Herman In Against Roy Nelson at UFC 146

Posted on by MMAWeekly.com Staff

Dave Herman and John-Olav Einemo at UFC 131Maybe the third time will be the charm for Roy Nelson at UFC 146.

Originally set to face Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva on the card in May, Nelson lost that opponent when main event fighter Alistair Overeem was pulled from the show and reshuffling took place.

In his place, Gabriel Gonzaga stepped in to face Nelson. Well, now Gonzaga is also out due to injury, so in steps former Sengoku fighter Dave Herman, who faces Nelson at UFC 146.

UFC officials announced the switch on Tuesday night.

Dave Herman steps into the bout on just over three weeks notice and looks to get back on track after suffering a loss to Stefan Struve in his last bout in the Octagon.

Herman won in his initial fight in the UFC defeating Jon Olav Einemo, but came up short in his second bout.

Now Herman steps in to face former Ultimate Fighter Roy Nelson in a bout that could have Fight of the Night or Knockout of the Night written all over it.

Damn, was looking forward to seeing Gonzaga again.

“Dave Herman steps into the bout on just over 3 weeks notice”

Hope he’s steered clear of the leafy green…

    Everyone is ducking Roy Nelson!

I’m not just talking about UFC fighters I literally mean everyone. By sheer size ratio, we are all ducking him, all the time.

Its nelson u stoopid reatard. :)
I really wanted to see Nelson and Gabriel thump each other in the face. Maybe even take it to the ground and have a little black belt war. I’m praying to the MMA gods that Nelson pulls off a sweet highlight reel victory. But I can’t say I’m not a Gonzaga fan too. Big country though…gotta love’m.

Late replacement fights are a no win proposition for the fighter not being replaced. If Roy Nelson wins, everyone will say, “Well, he was supposed to beat a fighter who only had three weeks to train.” If Roy loses then everyone will say, “Wow, he got beat by someone who only had three weeks to train.”

Dave is a tough opponent, but so is Roy, and as fat as Roy is, he has great cardio and can easily go three rounds hard. If Dave wins he will need to do so in the first round; three weeks is simply not enough time to get his cardio up to the level of a main card fight in the UFC against someone like Nelson.
