ONE: Kingdom of Warriors is set for the Thuwanna Stadium in Yangon this Saturday night. The finalized fight card was released on Wednesday with one bout added to those already announced. A bantamweight title bout between champion Bibiano Fernandes and challenger Toni Tauru headlines the event.
The co-main event is a women’s atomweight match-up that pits two promotional newcomers together as Russian debutant Elena Pashnina takes on Taiwan’s Jenny Huang (1-0). ONE’s 105-pound division is slowly starting to come together with Kirstie Gannaway (2-0) and Jujeath Nagaowa (2-0) the current frontrunners.
All eyes in Myanmar will be on the main event because it features one of the promotion’s biggest stars. Fernandes (17-3) has won nine straight fights and is one of the most decorated fighters in the history of Asian MMA having previously held titles at both 135 pounds and 145 pounds with Dream.
He faces an opponent who is also on fine form, as Toni Tauru (10-1-1) has won ten straight fights and is the reigning Cage Warriors 135-pound champion. He hails from Finland and will have a significant advantage over Fernandes in terms of both height and reach.
The rest of the card consists entirely of Burmese debutants from the world of Lethwei. They will all be competing in MMA for the first time and there are four-man tournaments taking place in the 135 and l45-pound divisions, as well as two alternate bouts.
It will be ONE Championship’s first ever event in Myanmar. CEO Victor Cui stated stated, “The enthusiastic support shown by local media and various partners is highly encouraging. We look forward to hosting a memorable world-class event here in Yangon with a blend of the best local Burmese talent and top international fighters.”
