Jorge Masvidal UFC on Fox 8 Post_9327Just a couple days removed from his last fight, Jorge Masvidal already has his next bout lined up.

Masvidal will meet Rustam Khabilov, likely on Nov. 6 on Fox Sports 1, according to a UFC Tonight report on Tuesday.

UFC president Dana White has stated that Nov. 6 is the target date for the promotion’s next UFC Fight for the Troops event. It would be the promotion’s third such event, which is typically used as a fundraiser for charities that benefit members of the military and their families.

Masvidal (25-7) is fresh off of his second-round victory over Michael Chiesa at Saturday’s UFC on Fox 8 event in Seattle. The bout was his sophomore effort in the Octagon and he has won both.

Masvidal defeated Tim Means in his promotional debut in February. He was one of the fighters ported over to the UFC following Strikeforce’s closure.

Having fought the majority of his career under the M-1 banner, Khabilov (16-1), like Masvidal, is also 2-0 in the Octagon.

He debuted at the TUF 16 Finale in December, where he knocked out Vinc Pichel. Khabilov followed that with a TKO victory over Yancy Medeiros at UFC 159 in April.

Rustam is gonna give masvidal a headache

Amen. I think Rustam is gonna drop Masvidal on his head. Him and Nurmagomedov best grapplers in the lightweight division IMO.

not best but there talented in there own way…id say if gray manard decided to strictly grapple or gilbert or henderson…but they do have the sambo wrestling background and thats why there so good at grappling.

        • Maddawgmar

They are way better than pure wrestlers. While I agree they can’t out wrestle a Gray Maynard or can’t out submit a Gilbert Melendez, I say they both are better grapplers. The complete grappling, Sambo is not just wrestling, it mixes judo w/ various forms of wrestling w/ jiu jitsu as well as the striking game. I think they are just a more complete grappler.

Russians olympic wrestlers have spent years working out how to transfer a lot of
soviet traditional wrestling styles judo and sambo techniques to mix
with Freestyle and Greco for a jacketless environment. The strongest russian wrestlers are still out of UFC…..

          • NOT_racist_if_true

exactly… the highest level of mma fighters have wrestling background, jones greco. couture greco, hendo greco,

khabib Nurmagomedov started Freestyle Wrestling at 5 under his father. After he competed in combat sambo.

Masvidal a true warrior man, you guys are not giving him cred… his win (over Chiesa) was impressive and undermined by ufc people… that was the fight of the night imo.

    • Maddawgmar

I agree he is legit and that was an amazing fight. But he has shown a bit of a weakness to high level grapplers. Chiesa was able to control the first round, and Rustam, like I said below, is on another level of grappler than anyone in the LW division, excluding Nurmagomedov (they are equal in my mind until they fight and one beats the other).

      • NOT_racist_if_true

agree khabib and rustam…the two russians are the dark horses in this division..and jorge is a warior..natural fighter, but he needs to keep his wrestling game on point if he wants to compete at top 5 ufc.

Rustam is going to win that one. You can bet a small farm on it. I don’t know why masvidal agreed to this silly fight. Masvidal is at least top-15, a great fighter, but Khabilov is an underrated fighter. Probably top 5.
