A motorcycle accident nearly took his life. Now Frank Mir fights for the first time in nearly two years. In June of 2004 he was at the top of his game. After disposing of Tank Abbott and Wes Sims in quick fashion, Mir fought for the UFC Heavyweight Championship against Tim Sylvia.
Mir dominated the champion in under a minute by armbar. It took just :50 seconds to become the UFC champion. In a matter of seconds in early 2005, a motorcycle accident changed everything. The worst was feared. Later it was revealed that the champion had a broken femur. Now he finds himself ready to face Brazilian “Pay De Pano” Cruz, a slick jiu-jitsu specialist at UFC 57.
Is he in shape, out of shape, skinny, fat? MMAWeekly caught up with the former champ in early December at the Las Vegas Combat Club. Watch him training right now on MMAWeekly TV and you make the call. If Mir wins the fight he will take on champion Andrei Arlovski. What’s his take on Arlovski? Mir said, “…he’s made himself into a monster, and that’s who I want to fight is a monster.” He continued to say, “So everybody’s made him out to be something that’s unstoppable, and that makes me excited. I see him, and that’s what I want to eat. Him.” Watch Mir as he gets ready for his biggest fight of his career at UFC 57 on MMAWeekly TV.
