Frank Mir Still Wants to Fight, but Only in the UFC

Posted on by Erik Fontanez

Frank-Mir-UFC-146-weigh-478x270Despite losing four consecutive fights, all of which happened in the twilight of his career, former UFC champion Frank Mir wants to continue fighting, according to a report on Wednesday evening.

Mir’s manager, Malki Kawa, told UFC Tonight that his fighter wants to keep fighting professionally, and Mir wants to do it nowhere else but the UFC.

According to UFC Tonight, UFC president Dana White said that he and company chairman Lorenzo Fertitta are scheduled to meet with Mir to discuss the fighter’s future in the coming days.

No decisions have been made on whether the UFC would release Mir after the fighter’s longest career losing streak or extend him a lifeline.

In his latest run, Mir lost consecutive bouts to Junior dos Santos, Daniel Cormier, Josh Barnett, and most recently Alistair Overeem. Two of Mir’s last four losses have come by either knockout or technical knockout.

A former UFC heavyweight champion, Mir recently fought Overeem, who was also on a losing streak at the time, at UFC 169, and was defeated by unanimous decision. Ahead of the match-up, White said that Mir and Overeem “need to perform” in order to impress the UFC executive, but wouldn’t confirm that either fighter would be let go from the organization with a loss.

Mir hasn’t won a fight since submitting Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 140 in December of 2011.

    Franky-poo, time to retire.

  • Guest

It’s not so horrible to go 0-4 after you’ve faced that murderers row, but it is if you havent showed any resistance.
Mir can probably still beat alot of other heavyweights, but he just cant deal with top fighters.
I wouldnt matter if he retires, but i also would like to see him go one more time. Maybe against Brendan Schaub. That would be interesting imo.
Anyway, he earned more money in those four losses than many other fighters on the roster with four wins, so of course he would like to fight again. But just dont know they would like to pay him another six-figure for another possible loss.

  • brad king

Brock vs Mir III. Winner gets rematch with reem.

    • Cigano

Brock vs Mir III ship sailed long ago.

  • Manuel Lopez

I hope he’s done and calls it quits. He is painful to watch.

  • Alex

LOL first fire these punching bags Nelson and Nog, then consider firing Mir.

    • shakejunt

wait you mean those guys who aren’t on 4 fight losing streaks?

      • Alex

Mir is on a losing streak because he fought stiffer competition than Nelson and Nog, and he fought stiffer competition than them because he aleady kicked their asses before.

Had Mir fought losers like Mitrione, Herman and Kongo recently, he wouldn’t have had the losing streak.

If you care only about stats, you’re a moron.
Oh wait…I forgot…it’s you! Of course you are!

        • shakejunt

frank mir fought stiffer competition because he makes 200k just to show up. they don’t book someone like that against the mittriones and hermans of hw, you donk.

          oh, and your breath smells.

          • Alex

..and he gets more money than them, because he’s better than them.
And he already proved it by beating their asses.
BTW the last known salary of Big Nog was 400K – probably it got reduced because he sucks, and it’s OK.

Sorry that I have to make you deal with facts, but you’ll get over it.
P.S. don’t know about my breath, but your nose tickles my pubic hair.

          • shakejunt

your insults are as weak as your logic

          • Alex

…yet you have no way to prove me wrong, as always.
I owned you again and showed your ignorance.
I’m getting used to it, it’s like taking a candy from a retarded child LOL

          • shakejunt

don’t worry, anyone bored enough to read our back-and-forth knows you’re the challenged one here

          • Alex

Some might not like what I say, because it makes them butthurt (you’re a great example of that case), but, just like you, they cannot debate with me because they’re sillier.

My opinion based on pure FACTS, and you cannot argue with facts.

          • shakejunt

the facts are that frank mir is on a 4 fight losing streak and gets paid too much. he’s on his way out. i don’t wish him any ill will, but he needs to accept a paycut and fight some up and comers if he stays.

          • Alex

You confuse facts about fighters with their statistics.
Statistics only show that you can enter sherdog or wiki.
Facts about fighters show, that you know something about fighters and their current state – not your case obviously LOL.

Whatever salary Mir should have is none of your stupid business, because you don’t pay for anything anyway – you definitely haven’t finished highschool yet.
What matters is, than they can fire two fighters, that are worse than Mir – Nelson and Nog – and even if he gets half the salary they are paid both it would be already a smart financial move for the UFC, since he’s worth more than those two together :)

          • shakejunt

you do a very good job at reiterating the same points, but a poor job at parrying counter-arguments. dan hardy was kept around because he’s a draw overseas, i’m not so sure frank mir sells ppvs or puts butts in seats anymore, even in vegas.

          • Alex

You haven’t brought ANY counter-arguments AT ALL for what I said.

What is it your freaking business who sells, who is not?
You’re not looking in the pockets of the UFC, and you don’t pay them anyway.
All for YOU to know is – Mir is better fighter than Nelson, better fighter than Nog, thus gets paid more. Thus has better fights. Thus has bigger chance to lose and losing record. Simple as that.

          • shakejunt

so who do they match him up with next? and if he loses? would he still better than other guys who are winning?

bottom line is that if you don’t perform, they won’t keep you around. you can’t pretend that frank mir is immune to the chopping block due solely to what’s left of his legacy.

          • Alex

Nelson and Nog don’t perform, and UFC keeps them around anyway, so don’t feed us with BS buddy LOL

They can fire one of them old losers now, then match Mir with whoever, and if he loses for the fifth time, they should cut the second one and give Mir another chance, because he deserves it more than them.
I say fire Big Old Nog now and leave Nelson for one more fight for the lulz – I love to see the fat disgrace getting beat up to the living death :) They may even match Mir again with Fat Country – Frank will own him again and kick him out of MMA.

          • shakejunt

            so keep frank mir forever?

          • jeremy

anyone who starts pulling out insult after insult already lost the debate. thats why they resort to such tactics. You lost.

          • Alex

LOL you probably tell that every day to the buddies in the schoolyard, that beat you up on a regular basis lol
“You insult me? Well, you lost”
            LOLOL loser kid

          • jeremy

            oops wrong one sorry

          • jeremy

he admits to being gay by admitting letting men suck his cock lol wow you told him buddy lol

          • Alex

I let him only because he begged me for it, he wanted it so bad that I just gave up, sorry – just like your daddy did ;)

  • anonmoose

Did any of you guys watch him fight Overeem? He threw a total of like 5 strikes…To me it didn’t look like he even wanted to fight that night – just showed up to collect the paycheck..

On that note he’s way past it, even with TRT usage. He should retire – though part of me will never get bored of seeing Mir getting smacked in the face..especially after talking crap (e.g. Lesnar fight lol)

    • Cigano

I’m surprised Mir & Overeem didn’t trash talk one another, similar to when Bisping & Sonnen fought.

  • Tommy Blingshyne

mir v gonzaga is the next fight to make…thats a fight mir can actually win and prob. the biggest name outside of the elite guys that have already crushed him…at least if he wins that fight, he breaks up that losing streak and can start an entirely new losing streak and it wouldnt look as bad…gonzaga was on a couple fight win streak b4 his most recent loss so he can afford another loss (hypothetically) and still get another fight in the UFC…think this is prob. the best case scenario…

    • T1000

That fight is the only one that makes since unless Frank wants fight guys like Soa Palelei.

  • DontFireMir

    Mir vs Gonzaga

    • jeremy

Gonzaga would wreck him. would have to be someone lower

      • Cigano

Stefan Struve (if and when he comes back? ?!?

  • shakejunt

the thought will always remain of what his legacy would’ve been like had he not been in the motorcycle accident, he was never the same afterwards. that said, frank is too cocky and his soulpatch is beyond awkward. time to hang em up unless you wanna fight debuting guys.

    • Charms434

Eh. He s*** the bed for a few fights after he came back but then went on a good run. Knocked out Nog,lesnar, Congo, Nelson.

  • Mihael Hajdin

lol ,Frank Mur is a bum, he is way passed his prime and will never be top 10 again, time to go mur!!

    • jeremy

I love it when brock kept calling him mur lol

      • Mihael Hajdin

        the good old days lol..

    • Charms434

Yea you must be the judge on that.

      • Mihael Hajdin

well being on trt and getting your ass destroyed does not make u a top caliber fighter..

  • brad king

mir vs werdum. Who is the best hw grappler

    • shakejunt

      cain

    • jeremy

      I like that idea

  • JDMMA

Mir has been paid $200,000 for his last 4 fight,,, that’s $800,000 for 3 lack luster performances,,, from Mir,,, one (against JDS) he just took a beating

    • Alex

Anderson Silva got paid 1200000$ for two lackluster performances.

      What do you suggest LOL

    • Cigano

He doesn’t get all that money u know …

  • Mascs

He simply doesn’t care anymore, tired of seeing him not caring about the show and rules are rules, 5 losses, fck him! Out the door he goes!

    • Alex

LOL like some random internet moron knows, which fighter “cares” and which is not.
Mir lost to 4 fighters from top 10 – something 95% of HWs would do.

LOL @”rules”. Who invented those “rules”? You? Your daddy?

  • R

He had a good run. He should retire and Dana White should induct him into the UFC Hall of Fame.

  • Charms434

On a personal level I think Frank Mir is the most or at least one of the most underrated UFC fighters ever. 2x champ, the current longest consecutive UFC fighter (nov. 2001), first to submit and knockout big nog, came back from a career ending motorcycle accident.
Granted he shit the bed on first few fights back, but then got his ass in shape. And had a great run. And the biggest part is he just turned 34.
    That’s impressive.

    • Alex

He has a warrior spirit, that’s for sure. To overcome injury, losses, so many beatings – and he still has a will to fight and would still beat 90% of fighters.

  • anonomos

    mir most overrated heavyweight

    • Alex

LOL right Nelson and Nog are still considered top 15 , and MIR is overrated?

      GTFO of here, dumbass.

      • anonomos

mir was only champ because heavyweight division had no competition way back when.pride fc then strikeforce had all the best heavyweights,

        u GTFO of here, dumbass.
