The Ultimate Fighting Championship today, via their website, announced that Forrest Griffin will be unable to compete on the promotion’s return to England at UFC 70:
“Light heavyweight contender Forrest Griffin has been sidelined by a severe staph infection in his knee and today was forced to withdraw from his UFC 70 bout with Lyoto Machida. A replacement is currently being sought to face Machida on the April 21st card, which will be held at the M.E.N. Arena in Manchester, England.”
Griffin was looking to make a return following a disappointing loss to Keith Jardine at UFC 66. Following a successful debut at UFC 67 with a victory over Sam Hoger, Machida will be looking to extend his current undefeated streak of 9-0.
No replacement has yet been named.
