Not many will call it strictly like they see it, but former UFC champion and current Inside MMA co-host Bas Rutten has never pulled punches, whether it be inside of the cage or out. And he didn’t pull any punches in his recent comments about UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.

Jones was heavily criticized following his recent victory over Glover Teixeira for reaching out with an open hand, constantly keeping his fingers in Teixeira’s face. With the topic of eye pokes and how they affect fight results being a current hot topic, Rutten addressed Jones’ approach.

Rutten says it is a dirty tactic, that Jones knew exactly what he was doing. The former UFC champ, however, says Jones is still beatable.

Im going to get a lot of hate for this comment (nuthugger etc) but i dont blame JBJ for doing it. If the ref refuses to take a point away why not. Its a fight, its him or me. Example in football if the refs are not going to call roughing the kicker the whole game…. INITIATE THE KICKER! Blame the ref for not enforcing the rule. Because if you aren’t doing everything you can to win, your not trying hard enough…. Just one idiots opinion.

Theres no chivalry in war but the ring is supposed to be different. Respect your sport, respect your opponent, respect the ring. Where does it end? I broke the guys spine with an elbow cause the ref wasn’t paying attention to it? An eye poke can be very painful and even dibilitating as it can injure/impair your vision, not only that but it doesn’t take much force at all to do permanent damage to the eye.

Very true. Few things I want to clear up. 1 I would never on purpose poke a persons eye. But im not above letting him think I would by keeping my hand open. 2 not saying that JBJ is not an dirty fighter. He is but the one way to get him to stop from doing that is to take a point away. And 3rd what happened after the elbow? What sport? And did you confess to it? FYI… I can’t believe that we are having a conversation online about MMA and no one has been called a nut hugger or keyboard warrior.

A dirty fighter is someone who punches you in the dick when the ref has a bad angle, headbutts you coming into a clinch, grabs the fence when the ref can’t see, wipes vaseline off his face and onto his body at the start of a fight and so on. Jon Jones does none of this. He plays by the rules.

          • David Huenecke

Alot of what he does shows disrespect for the sport and his opponent. They may be “legal” to an extent but ot just seems that if youre going out to purposefully injur a fighter thats dirty. The sport has evolved past using kneecap kicks so jones seems to be taking steps backwards, not forwards.

          • TheCerealKiller

Injuring your opponent, within the rules, to get a win is exactly what you’re supposed to do.

          • David Huenecke

Thats not what i meant exactly. Yes i know some submissions and things are meant to injur ppl and obviously theyre legal. I guess i meant more like his eye pawing. His spinning elbow that hits to the back of the head. But to try and maliciously injur people like palhares does isnt cool. I just feel jones doesnt really do anything to make the sport get less criticized. If anything hes an example that it still isnt regulated as well as it should be.

David, what you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul. Seriously, STFU.

          • TheCerealKiller

He fights by the rules, WTF else do you expect?

The ref has all the power to disqualify him for cheating, but they don’t. Because he is fighting by the rules! Everyone can do the same same to Jones, if they can.

      • put me in the sauna coach

..Daniel Petersen..exactly. that and his oblique kicks to the knee cap.

        • TheCerealKiller

          … which are legal.

  • put me in the sauna coach

this is different than when Rampage was bitching about his “dirty” techniques. Boss Rutten is one of the most respected fighters in MMA history and I rarely hear him bad mouth anyone. Definitely the ref deserves as much the blame for allowing Jones to keep his fingers right in Glover’s face. If Jones wants to be the Ultimate superstar some of that comes with being loved by the fans..and he does some stuff and says some things that turn people off. Not that I’m saying he’s evil or anything..but he some shady stuff.

Jon Jones is Dirty Fighter & Most of that is Greg Jackson !
Study GSP & Jon Jones Fights, In almost all of them both fighters land kicks to the groin in ythe first round, and get warned by the ref. Of course your allowed one so they take it. And from Matt Hughes threw Johny Hendricks there was eye pokes from GSP.

None of this is my opinion, watch the fights !
And Jackson’s camp is know for greasing too.

With that said, you have to think if the ref’s not going to take points away, maybe its not illegal ?

But please study the film, when GSP fought BJ Penn, Greg jackson had GSP use the tactic of clinching against the cage to tire out BJ arms, and that was mentioned from GSP.

Jones injured Glovers shoulder in the first round with a ( trick . )
So they both fight guys after being kicked in the balls, poked in the eye and either greased or injured .

I think Greg Jackson is the one to blame !

    • TheCerealKiller

      LOLOLOLOLOL!

Jones injured him with a trick!!! It was basically a modified standing americana. What’s wrong with that?

“GSP use the tactic of clinching against the cage to tire out BJ arms”

Wow, how dirty of them to plan on gassing Bj out. i’ve never heard any team say they planned to “drag them into deep water” before. You could just have saved yourself all the typing and just wrote, I hate Jon Jones an GSP.
