Former WEC lightweight champion “Razor” Rob McCullough will face off with contender Marcus Hicks at WEC 38 on Jan. 25 in San Diego, Calif., MMAWeekly.com has learned.
Sources close to McCullough’s camp confirmed the bout on Tuesday.
McCullough is coming off a hard-fought decision loss to Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone at WEC 36 on Nov. 5, in a bout to determine the lightweight division’s next contender to champion Jamie Varner’s belt. Varner and Cerrone will square off on the San Diego card.
Hicks last fought in August at WEC 35, where he lost by devastating knockout to champ Varner. Hicks had won his previous three appearances in the WEC, beginning with WEC 27, without seeing a third round.
The card also features the return of Urijah Faber – after dropping his featherweight title to Mike Brown – as he will rematch former UFC lightweight champion Jens Pulver.
WEC’s Vice President Peter Dropick said on Monday that while pay-per-view is still “in the works,” he doesn’t have a specific date yet. He indicated that WEC 38 would air live on Versus.
