Forget About Roy Jones Jr. and Boxing, Bellator PPV Matches Up Rampage Jackson vs. Tito Ortiz

TitovsRampage470While everyone was focused on the Roy Jones Jr. smokescreen, Bellator MMA did an end around and signed Quinton “Rampage” Jackson to fight Tito Ortiz on the promotion’s first pay-per-view offering.

The hot rumors recently had Rampage pairing up with Jones in a boxing match opposite the UFC’s big year-end pay-per-view that features two huge rematches: Chris Weidman vs. Anderson Silva and Ronda Rousey vs. Miesha Tate. The boxing match hasn’t materialized, however, with Bellator instead luring the recently retired UFC Hall of Famer, Tito Ortiz, back to the cage.

Ortiz had recently teased on Twitter that a comeback might be afoot, and it has now materialized.

Rampage and Tito will square off on Nov. 2 at the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center in Long Beach, Calif.

The event, dubbed Rampage vs. Tito, marks Bellator’s first pay-per-view offering.

“To have two of the biggest names in MMA headline our first PPV is awesome,” Bellator Chairman & CEO Bjorn Rebney said. “Rampage vs. Tito is a fight I’ve wanted to see for years and to have it as our Main Event on our first Pay-Per-View is a spectacular next step in Bellator’s evolution. They’re both re-energized, excited and ready for a war. This will be a great fight.”

“Honestly, I feel like I’ve been re-born.,” Jackson said. “My excitement, energy and aggression, it’s all back and bigger than ever. I feel like a kid again. The Rampage you’ll see Nov. 2 will be better than any Rampage you’ve ever seen.  Everybody knows Tito and I have a very long history. He’s a former teammate and friend, and it’s one of the reasons I stayed away from the UFC as long as I did.  But, I want to be very clear; any sort of friendship we once had doesn’t exist when that cage door shuts. I’ve got a ton to prove on Nov. 2, and unfortunately for Tito he’s the guy I have to make an example of. He’s in my house now and Saturday, Nov. 2, on PPV, it’s going to be a horrible night for Tito Ortiz.”

“I’m back,” Ortiz stated. “Over the last few years, my passion for MMA was completely killed, dealing with UFC politics and with Dana. I didn’t have that drive to compete, my heart wasn’t in it. I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I’m free. Bjorn and Bellator put together an opportunity that made me part of the promotion, part of the family.  I feel like I can breathe again and my old friend is going to be on the receiving end of all that happiness turned into an old school Tito Ortiz ground and pound beating. I’ve fought and beaten the very best in MMA history and on Nov. 2, Rampage will be the next huge win on my record. This is a new era for the People’s Champion.”

we’ve heard all this garbage before…

  • DB

One boring fight! One can’t fight standing and the other can’t fight off his back!! Can we say dancing the whole fight

  • I’m sorry. I was a big fan of Bellator. But I thought for the longest time ever, Tito and Rampage were friends and would never fight. If I’m wrong then I apologize and someone clear this up for me. But now I am no longer a fan of Bellator. They said they would not be a graveyard for ex UFC fighters and now they put on a show like this. Like I said If I’m wrong in someone on this then someone please feel free to message me and clear things up. But as of now I will not watch Bellator during these types of matchups, I will only watch the up and coming and current talented fighters Bellator offers such as Ben Askrin and the Freire brothers.

    • TheCerealKiller

You sir, are correct! You passed on Fitch, but picked up this crap PPV. May your first PPV be the biggest promotion ending POS the world has ever known.

      • At least Dana wants to book guys like Rory and GSP b/c they are the top two in the division. Pretty much in the UFC even for GSP. I’m not very happy with this. I would have much rather liked Jones Jr boxing Rampage.

    • MuayThaiFood

Would you watch them fight if they were still in the UFC?

      • Cptmats

If they were still in the UFC this def would not be a main event so yeh prob.

        • Justin Ernst

I bet it would be a main event.

        • CANDELARIO

          • Cptmats

It would have to be a pretty pathetic card for this to be the main event !

Bums would be fighting in the prelims !

      • George Sperry

For free I would watch it. Not PPV.

      • Not unless it was for the championship because they were both on a roll. This fight does nothing for either of them, it’s a show put on to get ratings based on their past relationship and being from the UFC. I’m not saying it’s not going to be an interesting fight, but I just don’t like it.

    • Supaman

yeah, Tito & Rampage used to be really tight and had trained together before. Rampage was a part of Team Punishment in its early days.

They’re still cool now, but more casual and not as tight as they used to be. Didn’t really have a falling out, just drifted apart. Rampage made other friends… TIto got distracted w/ Jenna, etc.

    • Mark McDowall

If the PPV costs $10 or less I would buy it…otherwise it wont be worth it.

Bellator is nuts. They passed on Fitch…but pick up Rampage who wants to fight HW now because he’s too lazy to cut wait…I mean he wants a new challenge. Tito…if he is all fixed up like he is claiming then he could be interesting. Depending on how this Eddie Alvarez thing pans out for them financially…this PPV could be a make or break for them. You know they are paying Rampage and Tito some ridiculous amount of money so this has to do well for their survival IMO

      • This could hurt them as well. Fans pissed off that they are using a “freak show” fight. And maybe some pissed b/c they don’t like Tito or Rampage anymore, both coming off losses in the UFC. This fight is a big risk especially on a PPV.

        • Mark McDowall

I see this as the beginning of the end to be honest, you know both of these guys are commanding a hell of a paycheck. After seeing Rampage last night on TNA…he was wayyyyy out of shape. You could see his belly sticking out and he looked chunky in his face. I think this fight will be a complete massacre. Tito is supposed to be in great shape since he has had all his surgeries on his neck, knees etc. Rampage is doing this strictly for the paycheck and I think it will show when he gasses about 2minutes in and Tito caves his face in with some vintage Ortiz GnP!!

I think fans will see this and it will really turn them off of Bellator.

          • Although I’am not happy about this match I’am interested in seeing who wins based on their styles. As silly as this may sound I kind of wish they were never friends and they fought back in the day when Rampage first came over to the UFC.

          • Mark McDowall

Styles do make fights…but if/when Tito puts Rampage on his back it’ll be over pretty quick.

    • Azumpire

Bellator is exactly that! A graveyard for UFC fighters when their time has ended. Tito’s unfortunately ended many years ago. I was his biggest fan, but now he is making an ass out of himself. Ridiculous. I would not watch Rampage vs Tito if it was free. Ridiculous. Ive watched one bellator event, from beginning to end, and I must say, I have never watched another. It was awful, and nothing whatsoever compared to the UFC

      • I like a few of their fighters but they should have kept away from bringing in ex UFC fighters. They could have had a great product with up and coming talent along with faces of the company like Ben Askren and now Michael Chandler.

  • Tiddy28

Man, a lot of people will hate on this matchup, but I think it’ll provide some good entertainment. Yeah, both guys are past their prime, but regardless, I’m looking forward to it.

    • ronbo

      your a moron

      • Nickit

        the irony returns..

      • ShaneJax

        Engrish much?

      • Darin

        “You’re a moron”
        Yes, you are.

  • Maddawgmar

Watching two punch drunk arthritic fighter that should have called it a career a while ago, no thanks.

  • JMoney

100% guarantee you will ALL watch this fight. How could an MMA fan of 10+ years miss this. Will it be world class, NO! Will it be entertaining… Hell Yeah!

The fact anyone has commented on this news shows that you will have some vested interest in the fight..

    • ronbo

100% guarantee your a moron. enuf said

      • Nickit

anyone see the irony in this statement?

      • George Sperry

        It’s you’re a moron,

If you insist on name calling and calling someone dumb, it’s best to not make 4th grade mistakes in your post.

For all of you that have trouble with conjunctions you can always stop using them. You are a moron works.

      • Darin

No, sorry, that is not “enuf” said. You need to learn the proper use of “your” and “you’re” before calling others morons.. Get off your mother’s laptop and go back to third grade.

    • fsunoles10

watching it? yes buying it? no

    • Mark McDowall

Had this fight taken place 5-10 years ago it would be amazing. Now with Rampage being a lazy fat ass the fight has lost almost all its shine. Now…Tito is supposedly all fixed up with all his surgeries…so that makes this an interesting fight.

I say Tito by GnP in the second…IF Rampage makes weight…

    • James Bullard

lol i am not paying to watch 2 washed up fighters pretend to do something other than fail. waste of money, waste of time.

  • ronbo

    • TrentSki

      So your buying it right?

  • shakejunt

the whole setup was corny, but this is a pretty interesting fight. idk how many will actually pay to watch though

  • The wizard

I’m watching this… For sure… True mma fan!!!!

  • TrentSki

People’s chump is more like it

  • PhranktheTank

Tito and rampage are both known for their drawing power. I like the idea of them headlining a card that also showcases bellators best. Doing so gives casual fans a look at what bellators has to offer. That being said, having this on PPV completely negates any chance of having that kind of success with the casual market, thus making it a terrible idea.

  • JayD

I love(d) both these fighters in their prime. And actually still do, but… I wouldn’t dare pay $1 to see this. Bellator has ratings because its free! Just not a smart move from any of the 3 people/promotion.

  • Cptmats

Titto: I’ve fought and beaten the very best in MMA history and on Nov. 2, Rampage will be the next huge win on my record.”

    When was this ?

    • Darin

He said that? I see 3 lies in that statement.

      • Cptmats

Three lies ? He only said one thing dumb ass !
Do you even read the articles or just come here to troll ?
It’s cut and paste from the article meat head !

  • Mark Bazid

Rampage and Tito are the UFC’s sloppy seconds.
I won’t pay to watch this but I will download it.
What will be more interesting than the fight will be the excuse the loser has for losing.
    Tito = I fought injured
Rampage = All he did was wrestle.

Belllator is the place old UFC fighters go to die.
A sad way for them to end their careers.

    • Cptmats

Rampage isn’t in the UFC because he doesn’t want to be, Dana would re sign him in a second.
He is still a top five LHW and can beat anyone if he dedicates himself !

      • King_DG

top 5 LHW?! Top 5 washed up LHW maybe. he couldn’t even beat Bader! seriously top 5 HAHAHA

        • Cptmats

He could beat Bader with his hands tied behind his back if he wanted to !
To be Honest he’s prob more like top three !

  • Kryptonitekid

How does is usually work when a competitor of the UFC goes head to head with the UFC on PPV, using UFC Castoffs? Pretty well, right?

  • Alex Adams

Good names bad marketing if you wanna make a name for your company….Take the gamble to go with your big guys from inside the company! People will talk more about the ex-UFC guy than name them bellator guy. Good fight bad fight hard to say but bad for all the guy busting their ass for years in bellator who lost their shot at primetime…my 2 cents! That’s the kind of fight that you see as main event on a FX card

  • BarrysHypocrisy

These 2 whining has-beens on a PPV? Not worth it. Maybe on free TV, but not worth paying for.

  • Timothy Malone

You can see the promotional ads for this

“One fighter will walk away 1-3 in his last four, and the other will be 0-4. THE STAKES ARE HIGH”

    • Darin

Lol. They will both likely walk away with a nice paycheck as that is their only motivation for creating this circus.

  • toom

Dana wasn’t kidding when he said get ready to lose money 99% of mma fans.could care less who wins this fight

  • JMoney

No.. I wouldn’t pay for it. But i would watch it….
Would you rather watch Tim Kennedy vs Jake Shields or this fight…

  • Milosc

    Little to gain from this

Reminds me of Shamrock vs Kimo..

I would rather see each of them fight King Mo, or some other legit 205’er

  • JMoney

Please don’t tell me this fight would be boring.. 12 months ago this would be hyped to the s***.. They’re no where near their prime but Tito has pulled a bonus in 3 of his last 4 fights.. It will be a huge payday for both of them regardless of the PPV buys (which won’t be high)..

Washed up.. maybe. But still World class LHW fighters. You guys are acting like its a bunch of scrubs..

    It’s not Arlovski v Sylvia…

  • eric

Say what you wanna say about this fight but there is no deniaing that Bellator just made some waves in the media cause of this, i can see alot of people start to get more interested in Bellator now

    • Mark McDowall

Its going to take alot more than 2 ex ufc guys that are pretty much past it to make alot more people interested in Bellator.

  • Mark McDowall

First PPV by a still relatively new organization…They are going to try and sell this PPV based on a main event between Tito Ortiz…2-7-1 in his last 10 fights…vs Quentin “Rampage” Jackson…5-5 in his last 10 fights and has also said he doesn’t want to fight LHW because he is too lazy to cut weight(not in those exact words but basically those words).

Sounds like a recipe for success to me Bellator!

  • bajafox

I like their effort, but the UFC will crush them like they did Affliction

    • Mark McDowall

Not to be technical but Josh Barnett crushed Affliction when he popped positive and they had to cancel an event…

      • bajafox

You’r right. I guess that incident accelerated the inevitable

        • Mark McDowall

They may have been able to hold on for a bit…they had some names and seemed to be doing ok moneywise. But I guess we will never know…

  • jo

both of you are anderson silva nuthuggers

  • Lawdog1521

This fight will make history. Both fighters will somehow manage to go the distance and lose on points.

  • Lawdog1521

Bellator PPV 1: Rumble at the Senior Center

  • Foolish Muse

What do you mean? This is a great fight ….. 10 YEARS AGO! A Laker girls pillow fight would be more entertaining.

    Japan will buy this

Bellator has been good for me, i love watching free mma & been checking them & there tournament style format from day 1. Last night was free and a couple of championship fights to boot! You got fighters like Alvarez, Chandler, & Askern over there, and they would fair well in the ufc. Look how good the strikeforce guys are doing in the ufc. Its fighting man, 1 punch or kick or take down can change anything in a fight. So all you keyboard fighters who say this guy sucks and that guy too old etc. You really don’t know anything till the fighters get in the cage. Oh & watch out for Bubba another Bellator fighter that DW should go after. I live close to the LBC so its gonna be a boyz night out to watch it live! So all you haters who talk about spending $ to see Tito v Rampage, Im going and spending $ and gonna have a great time with my boys!

    • South.NZ.MMA

Eddie avers is one of the best in the world, he wanted to leave to ufc but was held back by contract obligations in other words Bellator would not let go of him. every fighter wants to make it to the ufc for many reasons to test themselves against the best of the best and money money money, politics and corruption is in every fighting organisation just at a different degree.

  • Darin

    Those are two HUGE heads!
Bellator having a PPV with two big (although way past their prime) names headlining… why do I get the feeling that Dana White is suddenly going to think Bellator is a bunch of “assholes that don’t know what their doing”? The clock is ticking until these guys get bought out by Zuffa.

  • grashopper

Stop and think about it a min people bell is using the ufc marketing machine to sell there first ppv with two ufc fighters that have lose to forrest. Tito has won 2 fights in 6 or 7 years. Rampage has lost 3 in a row and that’s what you will be paying for two guys that are over the hill this is more a impact wrestling ppv. What happen to bell growing there own stars. jborn get your $hit together anyone with have a brain won’t pay for this the ufc has better fights on free TV and so don’t bell. The true bell stars should be pissed two guys that have never fought in the bell cage are headliners lol:-

  • casey church

Wow! That’s the stupidest fight I’ve ever heard of and on ppv???!!! Lol cmon. As bad as the old boxer against the old mma guy was, this is way stupider! Lol are you kidding me??? Who would pay a penny for this crap.
Bjorn is looking really stupid about now.

  • Sgt. Pepper

Bellator is on its way of becoming the next WCW

  • Big Daddy

This is GREAT ……… A guy who’s scared to fight against a guy who fights scared ! Can’t wait to watch reruns of American Dad while this is on !!

  • dgs

I have read interviews with so many fighters who feel “free,” and “reborn” again after being released by the UFC. While I can’t stand Dana White and personally think the UFC would be better without him (get rid of Joe Silva while you’re at it), no one can argue the best fighters in the world fight in that organization. Not surprisingly, only fighters who couldn’t cut it in the UFC feel reborn all of a sudden, because they know they won’t have to face that level of competition again. I’m sure that’s very freeing.

This fight is completely irrelevant, maybe even more irrelevant than the three beatings Tito put on a washed up Ken Shamrock (who never should have dropped to LHW in the first place).
