Following TKO Loss, Phil Baroni Out of One FC Fight with Roger Huerta

Posted on by Ken Pishna

Phil BaroniThe planned bout between Phil Baroni and Roger Huerta at One FC: Destiny of Warriors on June 23 in Malaysia appears to be off.

Baroni had been planning to square off with Huerta in a welterweight fight at One FC’s next event, but just three weeks out, he took a fight against Chris Holland at Ring of Fire 43 in Denver on Saturday night.

While Baroni started off strong, dominating Holland in the opening round, he faded quickly when Holland rocked him early in round two. “The Hammer” poured it on, realizing he had Baroni hurt, and quickly finished “The New York Bad Ass” by TKO.

Baroni will likely be put on the suspension list for the TKO loss, although MMAWeekly.com was unable to verify that at the time of publication. Independent sources indicated, however, that neither One FC nor Huerta is going to wait for the Colorado Office of Boxing to confirm Baroni’s suspension.

Evidently, neither the promotion nor Huerta wants the fight with Baroni coming off of a knockout loss just three weeks removed from the fight.

A new opponent for Huerta should be forthcoming soon.

    “New York Bad Ass,” hardly.

Why is this man still fighting? He has NEVER improved his cardio, is strictly one dimensional (unless he catches you with a haymaker he has very few tools in his arsenal, and zero sub defense), and in his early 30′s is already punch drunk.

I have never liked this guy, either as a human being or a fighter, although I have enjoyed watching him get his butt beat over the years (the Frank Shamrock beat down and subsequent choke out was my favorite, with the Evan Tanner beating being a close second).

Yeah Baroni has been the exact same fighter since he started fighting 10+ years ago…maybe even worse now. It’s a shame he didn’t find a good training camp earlier. The Hammer House was the worst possible environment for an already 1 dimensional fighter.

The Shamrock fight was about the most humiliating loss I’ve ever seen. Frank talked tons of really insulting shit before the fight, taunted him in the ring (and delivered a hard knockdown right after), choked him unconscious, AND Baroni tested postitive for 3 different steroids after the fight and was suspended and fined! LMAO…you get what you give I guess.

Brother you got to admit those sunglasses are amazing! He’s like some kind of super hero of some sorts. I’m waiting for him to just get right up and fly out of the ring or some shit like that.

Bring in Paul Dailey to whoop on Roger, now that he wants to fight at welterweight.

Baroni should change his name to bologna, cuz he is full of ish. Can’t fight, and is a super douche outside the cage.
