He peppered Gomi throughout the fight, looking like if he did finish it, it would be by knocking him out. Deep in the third round of their UFC Fight Night 21 main event fight, things took a different turn, Florian putting Gomi on the mat and finishing him off with a rear naked choke.
The choke not only put Florian back in the hunt for a shot at the UFC lightweight championship, it also earned him Submission of the Night honors and a bonus check for $30,000.
Not surprisingly, Roy Nelson, overcoming an 11-inch height disadvantage, scored the Knockout of the Night. He immediately closed the gap on his towering opponent, dropping him to the canvas with an overhand right that lined his pocked with a bonus check.
“Ultimate Fighter Season 9” winner Ross Pearson was also the winner on Wednesday night, using his superior stand-up game to keep Dennis Siver at bay, earning a unanimous decision victory. That wasn’t without Siver, however, having his moments, driving home his patented spinning back kick and scoring several takedowns.
Pearson and Siver’s combined efforts were enough for them to earn UFC Fight Night 21 Fight of the Night honors, with each taking home an additional $30,000.
