Strikeforce wasn’t able to hold its initial “Champions” fight card together, leaving the promotion to close its doors on a quieter note than hoped for, but at least there is no controversy over performance enhancing drugs at the promotion’s final event.
Two of the Saturday night’s marquee fighters at Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Okla., have past transgressions when it comes to drug testing in competition, so both Nate Marquardt and Josh Barnett were among the five fighters tested.
Oklahoma State Athletic Commission administrator Joe Miller told MMAWeekly.com that both Marquardt and Barnett were drug tested following Saturday’s fight, as well as main eventer Tarec Saffiedine, Tim Kennedy and Kurt Holobaugh.
Miller added that all five fighters returned negative – or clean – results.
Saffiedine upset Marquardt in the night’s main event, capturing the Strikeforce welterweight championship and earning a ticket to the UFC Octagon.
