The world’s top ranked heavyweight, Fedor Emelianenko, steps back in the cage on Saturday night to face No. 9 ranked Fabricio Werdum at the Strikeforce and M-1 Global co-promoted “Fedor vs. Werdum” event in San Jose, Calif. Fedor and Werdum, along with the rest of the fight card, weighed in Friday evening at the HP Pavilion, the same venue were the fights take place on Saturday night.

Fedor has sat atop the heavyweight division for years. Saturday night will be the latest defense of his position when he faces Werdum. Fedor stepped on the scale on at 229 pounds.

A Pride and UFC veteran in addition to his tenure at Strikeforce, Werdum has fought some the top names in the sport, and even counts current Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem among his 13 victims. Werdum weighed in at 238.5 pounds.

A lot has been made of the fact that Fedor is Strikeforce’s cornerstone fighter, but doesn’t hold the belt. That doesn’t faze “The Last Emperor,” who told HDNet’s Ron Kruck, “I do not collect belts or titles, that doesn’t matter that much to me.”

As for recent comments regarding his retirement, Fedor said that he will finish out his current Strikeforce contract, which has one fight remaining on it after the Werdum bout, and then “if it is God’s will” he will be performing further.

Jan Finney, who weighed in at 143.5 pounds, cutting little to no weight, will challenge Strikeforce women’s middleweight champion Cris “Cyborg” Santos. Unlike Finney, Cyborg does cut weight, but stepped on the scales at 144.5 pounds, both women easily making the 145-pound limit.
