It was already announced that Fedor Emelianenko’s next fight would be June 21 in Russia, but now the former heavyweight kingpin has an opponent. He will square off with another longtime veteran of the sport in Pedro Rizzo, according to M-1 Global Director of Operations Evgeni Kogan.

Fedor has recently bounced back from a three-fight losing streak that pushed him out the door at Strikeforce. He scored victories over Jeff Monson and Satoshi Ishii to close out 2011, putting him back on the winning track.

This fight with Rizzo will be Fedor’s first of 2012.

Rizzo is on a three-fight winning streak himself, having defeated Monson, Gary Goodridge, and Ken Shamrock consecutively. The fight with Shamrock, his most recent, too place in July of 2010; so it will have been almost two years since Rizzo fought when he faces Fedor in Russia.

    Monson, Ishii, and then Rizzo.

After that…who? Sergei or another SF HW who couldn’t make it to the UFC?

  • This fight would have been good 10 to 15 years ago. The bottom line is that Fedor is the best of the bottom, he’s back to fighting in the UFC trash can again.

Fedor is back to fighting cans. Just like before Strikeforce…..so how long ago was Fedor truly relevant?

Yea and im sure you would have said fedor has only been fighting cans if UFC didnt buyout strikeforce if it wasnt for “cans” where do you think UFC would get there whole roster from last time I checked they had nothing but a dumpster of a roster till they bought out PRIDE – Strikeforce – wec and any other smaller org that they monopolized your just butt hurt UFC couldnt obtain the Greatest heavywieght of all time so the only thing left to do is try and destroy his character which is fail i can still hear dana sobbing about how he couldnt get that deal

you dont have to like him but you still have to give respect where its due…I mean when wasnt he entertaining? For him to take a few shots and walk out there and throw down…He was a very fast hw.
