As reported by MMAWeekly.com, Fedor Emelianenko will compete on New Year’s Eve at the Saitama Super Arena in Japan; however, the No. 1 ranked heavyweight in the world’s opponent remains questionable.
It was reported that Emelianenko would return to action against Korean Hong Man Choi. Although Choi is the likely candidate, the bout has not yet been finalized.
Last week, M-1 Global Mixed Martial Arts along with former Pride/Dream Stage Entertainment staff held a press conference in Japan announcing the year-end event being billed as Yarennoka!
Along with Emelianenko, Hayato “Mach” Sakurai, Shinya Aoki, Tatsuya Kawajiri, and Mitsuhiro Ishida were on hand and expected to participate on the fight card.
The Russian Mix-Fight Championship website announced that Fedor’s brother, Aleksander, and Roman Zentsov are scheduled to fight as part of the event.
Other notable names such as Joachim Hansen, Ricardo Arona, Gilbert
Melendez, Luiz Azeredo, and Kazuo Misaki were also mentioned as possibly being on the card. No official match-ups have been announced, but MMAWeekly.com is following the situation closely.
