Fedor Emelianenko vs. Antonio Silva In The Works For Jan 29 Strikeforce Card

Posted on by Damon Martin

Fedor Emelianenko

It appears Fedor Emelianenko and M-1 Global have come to an agreement to return to the Strikeforce cage, and the former top heavyweight is in discussions to meet Antonio Silva on the Jan. 29 card.

Sources close to the negotiations informed MMAWeekly.com that the fight is in the works for the 2011 card, with Fedor returning to action for the first time since his loss to Fabricio Werdum in June.

Since that time, Fedor has been sitting with one final fight on his current deal with Strikeforce, as the promotion has been negotiating with his management company at M-1 Global to complete an extension.

Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker has sounded confident all along that they would reach an agreement, and while no information was available about the terms, his potential return in January seems to indicate a conclusion.

Meanwhile, Antonio Silva is coming off a win in his last fight just a couple of weeks ago in Strikeforce, finishing off late replacement Mike Kyle in the second round of their heavyweight match-up.

Silva had been on hiatus since May when he defeated former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski before returning in December to finish Mike Kyle.

The Jan. 29 Strikeforce card has been in discussion for some time and while Strikeforce hasn’t made any official announcement, several fighters including Nick Diaz and Jason “Mayhem” Miller are rumored to be on the show.

It will be interesting to see how Fedor reacts after his first real loss, i predict he will win tho.

I see he is ducking out of fights again!?

Only one fight left – surely should be vs Overeem, who has been trying to fight Fedor for 18 months!
I bet an extension never happens and then no one will know. Watch the excuses come.

Like Fedor, but M! is BS – Fedor vs Overeem would be a big fight for SF and the MMA world!

UGHHHH I WAS SOOO HOPING IT WAS GOING TO BE OVEREEM TOO MAN!!! @#$%^&*()(*&^%$#@

It’ll be interesting to see if Fedor comes in and dominates with a quick knock-out. Silva is no joke. He disposed of Arlovski relatively easy.

Silva IS a joke, he beat on a washed up Arlovski who’s only win in almost two years was on Bully Beatdown.

Of course they don’t give him Overeem because if Strikeforce gives him that fight and he loses, he doesn’t resign.

I don’t agree with it, but it’s business.

I’m not holding my breath on this one.

Why would they give Fedor a title shot? He lost his last fight that wouldn’t make sense. If it were up to some of you who ran strikeforce you would have to lose a match to get a title match!

Marloes Coenen and Brett Rogers think your post is funny.

What? No standards for getting a title shot? Hmmm….

Strikeforce is weird.M-1 is super weird. They are messing this guys career up.Im not sayin that antonio silva isn’t a good fighter, but I doubt that is what the fans want to see.M-1 didn’t want him to take the fight with overeem, then when they challenged him, overeem was gettin ready for k-1.And now i think since overeem has titles in mma and kickboxing,he’s going to head over to ufc.couldn’t blame him if he did.
