Titan FC 29 already features a lightweight main event between two former UFC standouts, Mike Ricci and George Sotiropoulos, but promotion officials on Monday revealed a pivotal featherweight bout for the card slated for Aug. 22 in Fayetteville, N.C.
Brian Davidson and Kevin Smith will square off in a bout that could be the beginning of a run at the Titan FC 145-pound championship. Both fighters are signed to multi-fight contracts with the promotion.
Davidson (11-4) is a Bellator, Strikeforce, and Titan FC veteran that has a first-round submission victory over former UFC champion Jens Pulver on his resume.
The winner of six of his last seven bouts, Davidson has a lengthy martial arts resume that stretches back 26 years. He is a fifth degree black belt in Taekwondo with several word titles to his credit.
He trains alongside UFC fighters James Krause, Tim Elliott, and Zak Cummings at Glory MMA & Fitness.
Smith (6-0) is the top featherweight fighter in Georgia. He has finished five of his six opponents and is the current reigning National Fighting Championship 145-pound champion.
The winner of the fight, according to Titan FC officials, is on the short track to a featherweight title shot.
Another bout on the Titan FC 29 card, pitting Kurt Holobaugh vs. Lloyd Woodard, is a featherweight title eliminator.
