With former WEC champion Cole Escovedo on his way back to the UFC, Tachi Palace Fights has filled his vacant spot with Farkhad Sharipov to face Tommy Vargas on the May 6 show.
Tachi Palace Fights confirmed the change with MMAWeekly.com on Monday.
Sharipov will face Vargas with the winner earning a shot at the vacant Tachi Palace Fights bantamweight title.
“Last minute replacements are always tough and once again we are lucky to be able to pull off such a talented replacement,” Tachi Palace Fights coordinator Jeremy Luchau wrote in a message to MMAWeekly.com on Monday. “We wish Cole nothing but the best in his UFC future.”
Tachi Palace Fights has always been willing to coordinate with fighters that end up contracted to the UFC, and is a major breeding ground for future stars in the sport.
The event featuring Sharipov vs. Vargas will go down on May 6 at the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino in Lemoore, Calif.
